About five years ago, I started learning Korean – not knowing how much it would shape me.
Korea has become more than just a country to me. It’s a culture I deeply connect with – through the language, the history, the art, and the people.

Some time ago, I received a special recognition for supporting and sharing Korean culture – and even though some time has passed, my gratitude remains just as strong.

Japan, told through paper. 🇯🇵✨⛩️

I recently visited Japan auf Papier at the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and got completely lost in the delicate details, quiet beauty and incredible craftsmanship of Japanese art.

The exhibition brings together works by artists such as Utamaro, Hokusai and Hiroshige, offering a fascinating glimpse into Japanese printmaking and its influence on modern graphic art. From intricate lines and subtle colours to beautifully preserved details — there is so much to discover in every piece. 🖌️📜

What I loved most was how much emotion and storytelling can be found in something as delicate as paper.

✨ If you’re in Dresden, don’t miss it!

A Special Gift from Korea 🐯🇰🇷✨

Depicted in the traditional Minhwa style, this tiger represents more than just a powerful animal. In Korean folk art, tigers are often seen as protectors — strong and majestic, but sometimes also playful and humorous.

Minhwa is traditional Korean folk art, known for its colourful, expressive imagery and symbolic meanings.

🏵️💛 When spring turns golden 💛🏵️

Before cherry blossoms take over, spring arrives a little differently in one place in South Korea—glowing in shades of yellow. 🌼

Sansuyu blossoms (Cornelian cherry) are among the very first signs of spring, blooming as early as mid-March—before the trees even grow their leaves.

📍 In Gurye, at the foot of Jirisan Mountain, lies one of the largest growing regions for these trees. In fact, around 70% of Korea’s sansuyu harvest comes from this area.

Fun fact:
Sansuyu isn’t actually a cherry tree—it belongs to the dogwood family. Its red fruits are later used for tea, liquor, and traditional medicine.

✨ In Korea, these blossoms symbolize “eternal love,” which might explain the quiet, almost magical feeling of this place.

And every year, their short blooming season is celebrated with a local spring festival.
