ADHD DIARY — DAY 2 🧠💊

Unbelievably grateful that my ADHD nurse went through all the instructions and my medication with me before prescribing it. 🥹

Because honestly… the amount of focus it would take for me to sit down and read all those instructions myself? I’d need actual superpowers. 😂🫠

ADHD diary… 🧠

After waiting 5 years for ADHD medication, and what felt like a lifetime just to finally get a diagnosis, I’m finally here.

I have the medication.

And honestly? I feel so fucking conflicted about it. 🥹

Because I need it.

I’m tired of having 100 tabs open in my head at once. Tired of the noise. Tired of feeling overwhelmed by the smallest things. Tired of my brain turning everything into an emergency and feeling like I’m constantly trying to catch up with myself.

I want some relief.

Not from being me… just from how exhausting it can be being inside my own head.

But then this little voice keeps asking…

What if the medication changes me?

What if it takes away the loud, chaotic, funny, unfiltered version of me that everyone knows?

I’m the one who makes everyone laugh. The one who keeps going when life knocks me sideways. The one who says exactly what she’s thinking with absolutely no filter 😂

I’m the “fuck it, we’ll figure it out” friend.

The one who somehow manages to be chaotic in every possible way… except being late because I’m ALWAYS ridiculously early. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

And I don’t want to lose any of that.

I don’t want to become a different person.

I just want to be me… without everything feeling so fucking hard.

I want to be able to organise my thoughts.
To finish a task without starting 12 others.
To feel overwhelmed without completely drowning in it.
To stop feeling like I’m running around putting out fires that only exist in my head.

Maybe medication doesn’t have to take me away.

Maybe it can just turn the volume down enough for me to actually hear myself.

I don’t want to lose myself.

Today we received a letter from the NHS, and honestly, one part really stood out.

The suggestion that we’re living through an “autism trend” era, and that this is contributing to the pressure on autism assessment waiting lists, is incredibly difficult to read as a parent.

Behind every referral is a child who isn’t asking to be labelled, trendy or different. They’re asking for someone to understand why the world can feel so overwhelming, why certain things are harder, and why they experience things differently.

Autism isn’t a trend. The growing understanding of autism is. And perhaps that’s why more children are finally being recognised for what previous generations may have gone without understanding.

Our children deserve assessment, understanding and support — not to have their experiences reduced to a trend. ❤️ #autism #autismawareness #nurodivergent #nhs #autismingirls by @heresbeckyadhd_
