Halloweekend 2026 💀👻🎃 by @herrdirector

Under The Shadow was really a joy to make at every stage, and we worked on it long and hard. Workshopping the script, workshopping with children, endless endless endless design meetings pulling our hair out over naturalism vs poetry, how to make the scares, how to deploy them wisely, and above all how to tell the story honestly. I did not expect so much joy - it was tough material for a lot of us to approach - but it’s always the people, isn’t it? And these were some very special people. Real good ones. Right play, right place, right folk. by @herrdirector

Thanks very much to @elleuk for including me in this list of awesome women. by @herrdirector

Talking to Jonathan Romney for hours, wandering around Islington getting snapped by Cian Oba-Smith, and calling it “work”. Lovely interview about all things Under The Shadow in today’s @ft_weekend. Link in bio. by @herrdirector

Carrie Mae Weems’ photography was such an inspiration for the cinematography of #TheManInMyBasement - stoked to have a piece of her in my home. by @herrdirector

Didn’t think I’d still have good news about The Man In My Basement coming in 2026, so this is lovely. by @herrdirector

Here’s every film I watched in 2025. More than last year in cinemas - hurrah. Favourite new releases included HARD TRUTHS, GOOD ONE, THE PRESIDENT’S CAKE, SIRAT, THE ICE TOWER and IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT. Favourite older films that weren’t rewatches included ADAPTATION, GIRLFRIENDS, BAHUBALI, DEVDAS, THE INVISIBLE MAN, THE LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM, ASHKAL. Normally I wouldn’t have seen so many films before they were released in cinemas - but being in TIFF and on a jury at LFF meant I had to. TBH, didn’t really enjoy that. Love going to buy a ticket on opening weekend - I wish more people in the industry would go watch films with members of the public in actual (ideally independent) cinemas, rather than endless industry screenings. by @herrdirector

Saw a bunch of stuff this year and thought a lot about the increasing rarification of collective experiences. Thought about chasing relevancy, chasing excellence, chasing meaning. Saw some work so good it genuinely took my breath away. Looking forward to next year. by @herrdirector

Decided that when @linascheynius photographs you, it’s too good for just stories, it’s gotta go on the grid. by @herrdirector
