Hetty Laycock’s sculptural practice emerges from an ongoing dialogue with materials, understood as active presences capable of shaping and transforming the creative process. Through cycles of construction, destruction and redefinition, her works explore transformation and the tension between the organic and the constructed, the fragile and the enduring.

Porcelain, beeswax, bronze, ceramics, glass, organic elements, and cotton and copper threads become materials through which she explores the possibilities of contemporary sculpture.

COME SCOMPARE UNA COSA is on view until November 21, 2026.

Almost two weeks have passed since the opening of COME SCOMPARE UNA COSA, and I couldn't be more grateful for the enthusiastic turnout. I would like to thank the gallery - Rosa, Annamaria, and Piero - for their faith in my work, as well as the fantastic and intriguing pairing with the great artist @sophieanneherin It was a great honour to work together for this duo-show.

COME SCOMPARE UNA COSA is on view until November 21st.

A new porcelain piece, some context, and the forever-stunning view from my studio @bevilacqualamasa

Today marks the end of a month-long intensive business school with @homofaber and @ieuniversity - what an experience! Soon šŸ”œ continuing, with the start of the collaboration with @archivio.seguso in glass blowing - feeling excited & curious!

Thank you to everyone who came to yesterday’s open studio, and to all the wonderful artists, professors, and people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting this past month. šŸ¤ by @hettylaycock

ā€˜Tempio’, 2026
Porcelain, beeswax (Valle D’Aosta), and iron
27.6 cm diameter, wall mounted

Recently, beeswax and porcelain found each other in my studio. Beeswax from Valle d’Aosta, returned from the foundry in these circular forms and met ā€˜Temple’, this delicate and cocoon-like porcelain sculpture. After studying beekeeping with @tramandars throughout the last months, I feel I can appreciate the preciousness of beeswax more deeply. A spontaneous meeting of materials, a small serendipity that feels complete. Definitely a material pairing I want to carry forward in my practice.

Material study: beeswax šŸ forever appreciating material self organisation in all its forms! Beeswax often organises itself into almost cellular / radial structures, somewhere between cross-sections, the sun, and organic tissue. by @hettylaycock

Handcrafted from cotton and then cast in porcelain, this sculpture belongs to a thread that is no longer there. Here, belonging is defined by what is missing. The porcelain could not exist in this form without the passage of the thread. Recently I have been reflecting upon how we too are shaped by invisible trajectories, by histories, cultures, and lineages whose traces continue to determine who we are.

Lots of interesting new thoughts already developing after a successful first week of the @homofaber fellowship. Looking forward to starting week two tomorrow.

My residency @bevilacqualamasa is coming to an end. During my time here, reading has taken on an increasingly important role in the development of my practice and the sculptures I make. So, heres a look at what I’ve been studying and where I’ve been studying it.. looking out over Venice :) by @hettylaycock

Recently, I've made some really small sculptures that have led me to think about scale, the microcosm and the macrocosm, and how much can exist in something tiny. Here's a very small bronze piece. To me, it looks like an idea, a wish, or something just coming into being. What do you think? by @hettylaycock

Excited to see this residency and project in Somma Vesuviana continue to take shape. Together with @tramandars and the local community - human and otherwise - the research has developed between agriculture, traditional knowledge, beekeeping, mountain hikes, Mount Somma, Vesuvius, the creation of a community book club... Rather than following a linear path, the project is growing like a mycelium: through connection, exchange, and shared experiences. From these months spent together, a series of small sculptures will emerge, works made possible by the generosity and presence of everyone who has taken part in the journey.

Photographed here is the book club #1 with the book *Essere Pietra* by Federico Luisetti. Book club #2 will be this Sunday at 18.30, we will be discussing the book *Making* by Tim Ingold.

A huge thanks to Alia, Luigi, Pasquale, Zio Nicola, Nando, Ignazio, Alessio, Umberto, the participants of the book club, the community of Somma and of course @lella_def @lucedigioia @tanirusso e @tramandars

Detail of a new work in copper wire and Murano glass.

I am currently in Somma Vesuviana, researching, connecting, and sharing experiences. Yesterday Alia said, ā€œSono fili tutti intrecciatiā€ - all the threads are intertwined - speaking of our stories and our lives.

A hand knitted mesh feels like the ideal metaphor: tangled, connected, and perfectly imperfect.

I am happy and grateful to have been selected for the @homofaber Fellowship, which will see me working with Gianluca Seguso at Archivio Seguso Vetri d’Arte in Murano, Italy, from September 2026 to April 2027.

Returning to the furnace, a place where tradition is continually renewed through making, observation, and conversation, feels like a rare privilege. I’m excited to see what grows from these months of learning, making, and becoming part of a lineage that honours the past while creating space for the new.
