“I’m all pearly gates tonight” - @danevansvlog

Every once in a while a man comes along—the kind you wouldn’t see coming- until he’s gone. His name was Shane Tyssen. You could overlook him so easily until you heard him speak. And then you were hooked for life. He was articulate, and crazy smart. Knew more about everything than I will ever know about anything. And at the same time, would sprawl on the floor like a kitten to learn in any moment. I loved him with a deep and sketchy love. And I still do.

Staunch atheist, vile sense of humor, made the best jokes at the worst times (my favorite kind)… He was MY kind of pagan. USDA grade savage.

I loved working with him because he was the best teammate you could ever have. Anticipating everything. Laughing at everyone.

I also loved talking about my faith with him because I think we both believed in the same thing. He was exclusively concerned with reality, and so was I. He had more light in him than most pastors… but you can only make great devils out of great archangels. And my man had a shadow side, and yes, it was very out of phase.

I echo this sentiment. With a canyon of reverb.

I once heard:
“Jesus is not loyal to nations, groups, battles or teams. He is only loyal to suffering” R.R.

And Shane suffered much. And for you my brother— The Christ I believe in, is in both hell waiting for you with a slayer t-shirt. And also with a slayer ‘onesie’ and a job offer as the maintenance man of heaven (buttons, not zippers)….

Either way, I’m all pearly gates tonight. And I hope I get to laugh with you again, in heavens woodworking shop, or in hell’s Nascar. I miss you. You magnificent bastard 😘. by @heyitsluke

This girl turned 4 this week. I know that I’ve lived a lot of life without her and w/ @ashlub ... But I can’t remember what that was like. Not having her in my life and arms. She makes me laugh, cry, and a better person. 4 years ago I became a man, because I became her father. Love you Em, whole best world... happy birthday love. by @heyitsluke

His name means “God is with me”...
His middle name “He is my judge”...
And he is now 1. And my favorite little dude ever.

I cannot wait to see the way your soul unravels in these times my son. You are a joy to be around, and you have a heart full of fire 🔥. Good! You’ll need it. We need more like you bud. On being a Father.
The pressure, burden, and responsibilities pale in comparison to all the love and cuddle tsunami’s. My gut tells me it’s more about presence. Being in your own eyes, looking back into your kids, than being in the room and making sure they don’t get hurt. Being connected than being right. There is no manual for that. To be the kind of man your daughter will hold as a standard to any mate. Or the archetype your son would aspire to, or reject entirely— there is no playbook. There might be some rules to follow. Or some good recipes, even family recipes. But I think it’s more like music. Better live, and in the room. by @heyitsluke

My dad doesn’t have Instagram, but we’ve shared our sentiments and fondness already, so this is to all the Fathers. We love you. We need you in our lives. We look up to you. We forgive you. We want to be like you. And sometimes, we can’t stand that we are. But we love you. And we are grateful to rest in the shade of the weight and unknown you bear for us everyday.
