Hoco Parade + Carnival!! Thursday was the day we had the parade and it was so fun! We decorated the truck with the posters we painted and feathers! At the parade we decided to dress up traditionally and wore the shirts we made at our last club meeting. On Wednesday, we had the carnival and it was super fun! We did a maze game for people to participate to win snacks!! Overall, the entire week was a blast! by @hhs.nativeamericanhawks

The day of our Banquet!! Today we had prepared the banquet before working together to make the food for our guests, having fun in the process as we had a little hangout. We started off by recognizing our administrators who’ve allowed us to be able to do all this, and went to a land acknowledgement by Camryn, then introduced our exciting keynote speakers, Mary Kim Titla and Angel Tadytin! Through their speech we’ve learned that we are unique and special in our own ways and to continue to shine with courage in our steps. After their wonderful speeches, we moved onto our Award Ceremony to recognize our seniors with stoles for when they graduate next week! After recognizing our seniors, we recognized our club as a whole with certificates for each person and shared one favorite moment from the whole year. After recognizing our club members and seniors, we introduced Go My Son and put on a show for our guests. We then finished off with closing remarks from our principal, Mr. Yee, and a little speech from our club manager Mrs.Horrocks, and ended the banquet with a round dance! Throughout the year we have learned social skills, environmental skills, adaptability, and teamwork which have led us to where we are today. Thank you to our president and vice president for all your hard work in organizing this and thank you to the club members for putting it into action! Thank you Abby’s mom for DJ-ing and making sure our sound went smoothly! Go Native Hawks! #highlandhawks #nativeamerican by @hhs.nativeamericanhawks

“Become a Pro at Being You.”

Native American students from across the state came together for Finding the Champion Within You, hosted by @rise_above_inc_ and the Native American Fatherhood and Families Association.

It was more than just a two-day basketball clinic — it was a powerful experience filled with motivational speakers, talking circles, and time with professional basketball players and coaches who poured wisdom into our youth.

@hhs.nativeamericanhawks and @syd_rrocks performed on day one. So proud of them for having the courage to share their songs and dancing. Thank you Owen for joining us. Our students showed up, leaned in, and walked away inspired and empowered.

Thank you to everyone who put their heart work into making this happen. Thanks @angels_ventures for helping me chaperone. I ❤️ it when our community makes our youth the number one priority.

Last day of UNITY Midyear! Today we did our morning general assembly with Chance Rush and cultural Blessing by the Kolencia Deer Dance Group. After the blessing we got to meet Jeremy Arviso, a fine arts and design artist. Then, our curriculum sessions that have been building up to today for our top teams who’ve presented their ideas to solve big issues we see in our nations and among our youth and our trainers reflected upon this as we then finished off with a message from the UNITY Executive director, Mary Kim Titla, who’ve gave us a message we can continue to carry on to inspire others as well. it was so much fun being able to gather together to share ideas to solve problems we see and building teamwork and engagement skills we can use in our day to day lives. We hope to see everyone again at Nationals! #unity #unitymidyear #highlandhawks #nativeamerican by @hhs.nativeamericanhawks

Day 2 of UNITY Midyear! We started our day off coming in during the fireside chat with Judith LaBlanc, Executive director, Native Organizers Alliance. After, we then went into speed workshops where we went from table to table learning and working with each organization. For lunch, we had our UNITY Mock Pageant and saw our new Mr.UNITY And Ms.UNITY. We then broke out into our curriculum sessions making our script and presenting our ideas of how to solve issues we see around our nations and among the youth. After presenting we’ve then got dinner and explored around downtown phoenix before going to the Intertribal round dance! by @hhs.nativeamericanhawks

Day one of Midyear UNITY was so fun! We started the day off by one of our keynote speakers Billy Mills talking to us about how he accomplished a gold medal in the 10,00 meter run at the Tokyo Olympics, teaching youth about pride, healthy living, achieving dreams, and how he overcame his adversities leading up to today. After Billy Mills’s speech we then broke up into our community planning curriculum that consists of Mental Health & Wellness, Social Justice, Culture Revitalization, Climate Action (Our group), and Advisor & Youth Advocate. In our group, Climate Action, we split up into groups and discussed what we can come up with to address environmental or community issues and goals we want to achieve through those issues. In the evening we all came together and did round dancing and had so much fun as we danced to music as well and saw performances! Our youth council can’t wait for day 2 of UNITY! #myunity26 #midyearunity2026 #highlandhawks #nativeamerican by @hhs.nativeamericanhawks

Today was such an adventure! Our club, the Native American Youth Council has taken a field trip to take a tour of the Arizona State University by a few of their own students that took the initiative to give us a detailed overview of what they do and took us to see a presentation of what law school students do and how we can prepare for it. After the ASU tour we then helped out for the Native Women Run, a nonprofit dedicated to representing Native Women across the U.S and Canada with Ku Stevens who ran with us before his screening of his documentary Remaining Native and a little Q&A after watching! It was such an eventful day and we’re so grateful we got the opportunity to see Ku Stevens as he talked to the youth giving advice and proving his inspirational work he had done in his film made by Paige Bethmann, her phenomenal work in this film had shown the connection of the past, present, and future through Ku Stevens challenges and determination to remember those who had to face Native American boarding schools. Tomorrow is UNITY Midyear Day 1! #myunity26 #highlandhawks #nativeamerican #unitymidyear @unityinc76 by @hhs.nativeamericanhawks
