Happy Autumnal Equinox ( one day late ) I might procrastinate but the celestial movements are right on time. This mosaic at 138th St and Grand Concourse on the 4/5 subway marks the change of the seasons in the northern hemisphere from summer to fall. On this day, the earth’s axis of rotation is perpendicular to the line connecting the centers of earth and the sun . Hours of day light and darkness are balanced to roughly 12 hours each all over the world. This mosaic depicts the nearly equal hours of day and night, sunrise and sunset, and the stars that are overhead in NYC. Amy Pryor, “Day Into Night Into Day”, glass mosaic with inlaid stars, 2022. Commissioned by MTA Art and Design.
Fabricated by Mayer of Munich.

A Random Assortment of Politicized Colors, 72” x 56”, fabric, recycled polyester batting, thread, 2025
This machine pieced and hand quilted work combines a traditional 16 patch block with chance operations. Pryor selected six colors with symbolic meanings: black and white (race), red and blue ( Republican and Democrat), and pink and baby blue (gender)
Each was assigned a number 1-6, and a die was cast to determine the sequence. A big thank you to Longwood Gallery and Bronx Council on the Arts for supporting this work made while in residence last year on Governor’s Island. An invaluable gift of time, space and community for studio artists! And also to Bronx Art Space, and Linda Cunningham for including this work in an a two person exhibition, Dibujando juntas/ Drawing Together, Amy Pryor and Aurora DeArmendi Sobrino, curated by Linda earlier this year. @bronxartsorg @bronxartspace @lindalcunningham

I’m honored to have received a 2026 BRIO Grant in Visual Arts-Crafts. I am immensely grateful for the dedication of The Bronx Council on the Arts to the burrough’s diverse creative community. This year they awarded 41 grants across disciplines of Literary, Performing, Media and Visual Arts. Congrats to all of the recipients! A component of this grant includes a community engagement project by grantees. I’m looking forward to hosting a workshop with the community and sharing my knowledge and love of art. @bronxartsorg #brio #bronxcouncilonthearts #bronxartist #interdisciplinary #nycart #bronxculture #amypryor #textileart #contemparyart #contemporarycraft taken in Bronx, NY by @hiames
