Happy Autumnal Equinox! Today I’m celebrating the balance of light of dark, the relative equilibrium of day and night. (And the moderate weather that autumn brings!) Also entirely grateful for the opportunity to create this public artwork, titled Day Into Night Into Day. Located on the 4/5 subway at 138th and Grand Concourse (Mott Haven) in The Bronx. This work is based on 24-hour clocks which mark the hours of daylight and darkness as visible from NYC at the beginning of each season. Hello Spring! This mosaic depicts the nearly equal hours of daylight and darkness on the spring equinox as observed from NYC. This is one of five mosaics commissioned by MTA Arts and Design for the 4/5 subway in Mott Haven. ( 138th and Grand Concourse). It’s a 24-hour clock, complete with sunrises and sunsets and constellations that would be visible from NYC if conditions were amenable. I’m over-the-moon to share this public art project titled Day Into Night Into Day. It consists of a series of five mosaics at 138th-Grand Concourse in The Bronx. Many thanks to MTA Arts and Design for commissioning these, and to the great multi-generational glass and mosaic studio, Mayer of Munich for their skillful fabrication and installation. These works are based on pie charts of the four seasons: winter solstice, spring equinox, summer solstice, & autumn equinox.
