Introducing Moroccan artist Hiba Baddou @hibaddou and her series Paraboles, where satellite dishes turn into quiet symbols of connection. Once used to access TV from abroad, they became a lifeline for diaspora communities staying close to home.

In her images, these everyday objects appear in unexpected ways, reflecting what it means to live between cultures, staying rooted while constantly navigating different worlds. by @hibaddou

Hiba Baddou (@hibaddou) is a Moroccan multidisciplinary artist working across image, film and installation. Her work often considers how visual culture informs memory, identity and the pull of elsewhere.

For her latest multidisciplinary project, Paraboles, she takes the satellite dish — once a constant presence on Moroccan rooftops — as a starting point for thinking about migration, fantasy and transmission.

In her photographs, the dish becomes almost bodily: worn, carried and absorbed as though the search for another life might begin with reception itself. by @hibaddou

While staying in Oukaimeden, visual artist and photographer Hiba Baddou @hibaddou got stuck at 3,000 meters high in a snowstorm for 48 hours. With nothing planned, she reached for her camera. “It was a crazy adventure and a crazy landscape.” The series came unexpectedly.
“I’m currently working on a project about water and this gave me a complete other view on how water can put us in crazy conditions, especially in a dry country.” by @hibaddou

Tomorrow, a new chapter begins at The Watermill Center. A continuation of a research that began with my friend David August @davidaugustx searching for a language shaped by waves, sound and movement.

During this residency, I’ll continue exploring this language through a live calligraphy ritual, where gesture becomes vibration, and symbols become a form of transmission.

Grateful to @sherrydobbin , whose path I was lucky enough to cross. Without her, I may never have dared to take this leap...

Onward into the waves.

It is also an honour to be alongside amazing artists from the continent and the diaspora.

Many thanks to curator Armelle Dakouo and the co-curators Sandrine Honliasso, Lamine Diarra and Ange Frédéric Koffi for their trust and for making this beautiful opportunity possible.

I’m incredibly happy to announce my participation in the 15th edition of the Bamako Biennale of Photography, under the theme (Re)fabulations, curated by Armelle Dakouo.
It is a true honor to present a project close to my heart, Dar Mhani, a research into family archives, alongside such an inspiring group of artists.

A heartfelt thank you to the curatorial team for this wonderful opportunity. 🤍

I am pleased to announce my participation in the upcoming Bank Al-Maghrib Exhibition at Dar El Cadi, Rabat, Morocco.

Symphony (II)
2026

Created from discarded telephone handsets and an accordion, Symphony (II) explores language as a living material: unstable, elastic, and continually reshaped by the structures of power through which it circulates. The accordion's bellows become a metaphor for language that expands, contracts, bends, and recomposes itself. As narratives circulate, they accumulate omissions, translations, censorship, and reinterpretations. No discourse is ever fixed; each bears the traces of its own displacement.

Suspended above the instrument, the telephone receivers form a fragile architecture of absent voices. Once designed to overcome distance, these objects no longer transmit anything. Disconnected from their original function, they become the vestiges of an obsolete technology and the material fossils of invisible communications. The work shifts our attention from messages to the infrastructures that make them possible, revealing that every act of speech depends on technical, political, and social networks that shape both its circulation and its disappearance.

Conceived in collaboration with my father, architect Azzedine Baddou, Symphony (II) extends an intergenerational reflection on reuse and the transformation of materials. Growing up surrounded by salvaged objects, I learned that what was considered waste could acquire new meaning and memory. Here, the gesture goes beyond reuse: it transforms the object from a tool into a sign. The telephones become the organs of a collective language shaped by history, technology, and memory. Like the accordion breathing to produce sound, the installation appears to inhale and exhale the narratives that shape our societies.

The series will premiere at the Bank Al-Maghrib Museum from 17 July 2026, accompanied by a short film. by @hibaddou
