📖Book Recs📖

Today is the last day of Latine/Hispanic Heritage month so I really wanted to make sure to make a post that included my favorite books!

These will always be special to me because they are a celebration of culture and the unique experience of what it means to be someone of Latin American descent in the U.S.

I always make it my mission to try to read diversely and so I can’t wait to see how many more latine books I’ll discover!

This what my brain apparently needed to break me out of my slump. I devoured this in like 2 days and that is my fastest record as of late. This was such unhinged dark fun. The first dark romance in a while that really left me satisfied.

I think this works so freaking well because they are equally insane and obsessed with one another. They match each other’s freak and really see the darkness in one another to the point of saying “That’s hot”. They are both so deranged, delusional, and psychotic so it balances their dynamic. Is it healthy in real life? Absolutely not, but it works for them and I’m not reading to seek moral guidance. I had too much freaking fun and that’s all a person needs sometimes.

I appreciate the fact that aside from the crazy stalker antics and spice, there was an emphasis on toxic family dynamics. The side plots and character arcs for both of them were so interesting to read about. I really enjoyed the direction that Avina took with both the mom and crazy (not the good kind) friend plot lines. In addition to that, I heavily appreciate the discussion of women’s health, struggles, and cultural aspects that we saw with the FMC. It is so rare to see a POC FMC in a stalker romance or hockey romance in general, so all the roses to the author for having that representation as well.

I definitely see myself coming back to this for another read and I have recommended it to my fellow dark romance book girlies out there. It was hilarious, morally questionable, spicy, and it certainly had that shock value that leaves you gagged with dark romances.

📖Latest Book Haul 📖

How could I ever say no to a sale ?? During my birthday month of all times ?!! NEVER.

I love a good steal and I will always keep an eye out for a coupon or special deal , especially during these times of economic hardship😭. My book friends have been yelling at me to get Harbinger and the other two are ones that have my attention. I own book 1 of the Stacey series but I have yet to read… maybe it’s time because I’ve heard great things!

I was blessed enough to save so much money while buying these 3 books, the bookish blanket below, and a bookish hoodie (not shown here).

I’ve been telling everyone I know to run to places like Kohl’s because they have upgraded their cute bookish merch. I saw TikTok’s about the cute blanket and literally ran because I don’t have something this cutee. I’m so happy that I found this last one and it’s in my fav color.

📖Books with Groveling 📖

I loveeeeee a good grovel, which is slightly ironic because I am not a huge fan of third act breakups.
Now my distaste for third act breakups could be due to how it’s done or because I have a serious aversion to conflict lol. Another thing to bring up with the therapist I suppose.

I think my first exposure to groveling after starting my romance book journey as an adult was Twisted Love by Ana Huang back in 2021. That definitely unlocked something in me.

The groveling in these are on a scale from awww to holy man begging on his knees. If any of you have books that contain peak levels of groveling pleaseeeee send to me expeditiouslyyy.

📖Monthly Hopefuls 📖

Happy October everybody (5 days a little late 🤣🫶) 🎃!
I honestly loveeee Halloween but if you know by now, I really mean cute and medium spooky. My heart is too weak for anything too hardcore. I shall be rewatching Halloweentown, Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic, etc.

I have been consuming everything pumpkin like it’s no one’s business. I’ve gotten pretty good at making pumpkin cold foam lattes at home to save my coin purse in this economy of course. Having a coffee addiction is expensive so a girl does what she has to 🤣.

I tried my best to be on theme for the month and I think it came out pretty good! I started Kiss of the Black Flame already and I am so excited to especially get to Phantasma because I am YEARS behind on the hype lol.

Also if you are American, please don’t forget to register to vote and I think some states are already sending out ballots!

📖Book Vibes 📖

Do you ever daydream when you listen to music and a certain scenario or book character comes to mind ? That is literally me most days lol. Hence, this post was made solely based off of vibes and feelings.

Not many people know this ,but I had a hard-core rock and heavy metal era back when I was in middle school 🤣 I wasn’t angry or anything but I liked the vibes. To people in real life, they swear I am the most fluffy person they know 🤣💐💕. I was heavily influenced by my Guitar Hero game on Wii!

I can totally imagine these characters from these books slaying enemies to this song. Especially the unhinged and bloodthirsty ones.

📖Latest Bookish Purchase 📖

PEOPLE THEY HAVE THE CUTEST BOOKISH ITEMS IN THE WILD.

My sister and I had seen a TikTok of soo many adorable bookish items at stores like TJ MAXX , Marshalls, etc. So what did we do… Got our coffee and walked around stores.

Unfortunately, the stores we visited had scarce pickings probs because others had our same idea 😂😂. I bought this cute e-reader sleeve and I adore it . I hope I get to find the bookish blanket and more sleeves in pink. 🤞

Rating is closer to about 4.5

Millie will always give me deliciously swoony romances, with NYC and latino pride, and straight up green flag yet down bad men. These two had fantastic freaking communication.

I have been patiently waiting for Luke and Daisy since the moment that they were hinted to be endgame in the previous books. Luke has wanted her from the beginning and it pained him to see her while she was engaged, but he always there to be what she needed him to be. UGHHHH we love a quiet suffering yearner who wants what’s best for his beloved. Luke was literally everything from the get go because we love a man who is patient and understanding yet he is FERAL for her.

I honestly related to Daisy in terms of her people pleasing. It becomes almost second nature to put the needs and emotional well being of others above all else. Given her family background and upbringing this people pleasing tendency makes complete sense. I think the pressure of the wedding that she had countless doubts about and the pressure of the world in that moment became too much to the point where she finally snapped out of it a little bit. Throughout the story she slowly begins to break out of the habit of silencing her wants. With encouragement from sweet Luke, Daisy was finally able finally strive for the life she wants and be herself unapologetically.

I adored our chaotic friends and family. The couples from the prior books had an absolute ball seeing Luke and Daisy together. Nick may have been momentarily disoriented and disturbed but his wife kept him in check lol.

I loved seeing Daisy and Luke be perfect together and wade through their baggage alongside one another. Green flag couple across the board.

This book teases a certain sister of the grumpy coach and a baseball player with a playboy past. They had something years ago but somewhere along the way a misunderstanding unfolded and they ended on heartbreaking terms. I can’t wait for the angst and potential groveling with them. by @hiddenirises

⛈️Thoughts ⛈️

I kid you not, this one is literally my favorite of the 3 books released thus far. I could not put this one down for the life of me. We continue to learn so much about the world, characters, and the dangerous games of gods.

Rose yet again is slapped in the face with so much new information in the form of family history, prophecies, royal expectations, and literally so much more. The “reluctant hero/chosen one trope will always have me in the palm of its hand. To be able to face so many ugly truths about the world and about yourself, while still doing what needs to be done is something to be commended for. I was also so appreciative of the anxiety rep and description of what it feels like through Rose.

Kyor development for the win. He was so incredibly vulnerable and raw here, which differs from the previous books. We witness such a beautifully flawed version of him filled with jealousy, remorse, heartbreak, addiction, and insecurity. Kyor has reached a point where he can finally live up to the expectations and be the leader his people need. Even amidst his own internal struggles, he never fails to care for Rose and in return allow himself the grace of being cared for as well. Kyor Knavin is hands down going in the book of iconic book boyfriends.

All of the above being said, I am so happy that we finallyyyyyy see all of the barriers and secrets between Kyor and Rose disappear. They literally moved like such a power couple this whole book. I LOVED THE DEVELOPMENT. They were tender with one another, they challenged one another, rebuilt their trust, and most importantly they chose one another every time.

The supporting cast and their respective romances have my heart. Love after loss. A new budding romance. Wholesome found family moments. Best friend shenanigans. Everything was going great and then BAM the last percentage of the book was STRESSFUL. I will never forgive the authors for what they took from me btw. NEVERRRRR.

Now join me in sitting here staring at the wall while I wait for the next book.
