Another @cafeotonogr spotlight, our local partner cafe serving High Bank along with a curated vintage thrift selection. Currently on bar you’ll find a super sweet washed Guatemalan coffee on espresso, and Sandra Stoessel’s natural mariana from Nicaragua on pour over.

Also, their fall lineup of specialty drinks is perfection. taken in OTONO by @highbankcoffee

the 2026 zine is underway, but we’ve been experiencing a shortage of cameras due to high demand. If you’ve requested a camera and have not received one, there will be a fresh restock next week. add a free camera to your cart with any coffee order to partake in the ongoing zine project. Our first Ethiopian coffee in years brought to us by a new sourcing partner, Emba coffee, whose values aligned with ours.

This is a washed lot produced by smallholder farmers growing Ethiopian landrace varieties in garden sized plots.
Meticulous drying procedures protecting the coffee parchment from direct sun during the day and moisture at night have produced an incredibly clean cup.

One of the most expressive washed Ethiopian coffees in recent memory, its intense aroma of dew soaked coffee blossom (iykyk) is a prelude to its bright acidity, peach forward fruit notes, and lasting sweetness.

Just a perfect coffee. I hope you enjoy brewing it as much as I have roasting it. taken in High Bank Coffee Roasters by @highbankcoffee

It has been a long time since High Bank has had an Ethiopian coffee. As we’ve continued to dive more into focusing on relationships, its been hard to find the right people to work with in Ethiopia - a country where large importers have better resources to navigate the bureaucracy of Ethiopian coffee sourcing.

When Yoni from @embacoffeeco reached out earlier this year, I knew it was a good fit immediately. Yoni, with family in Ethiopia, has spent a lot of time on the ground building relationships much like we do - by word of mouth and through trusted friends.

I’m excited to launch our first Ethiopia in years from Emba tomorrow morning at 10am. taken in High Bank Coffee Roasters by @highbankcoffee

Been a minute. New coffee on the site and available for wholesale!

Sandra was introduced to me by Sofia after they attended a coffee education program in Honduras together. If you know High Bank, you know a large selection of our coffees come to us by referral from producers we’ve worked directly with and trust.

Sandra and her family operate their farm, Buena Esperanza, in Matagalpa Nicaragua where half of their land is virgin forest.

Mariana, the variety showcased here, is an F1 hybrid between IAPAR 59 and an Ethiopian landrace. While typically known for its fruit forward profile and rooibos tea flavor, I’ve found that Sandra’s example, grown at just 1200m, leans more heavily on the tea like flavors.

In the cup we taste a resemblance of iced tea with a twist of lemon. A sweet caramel after taste rounds out the profile. taken in High Bank Coffee Roasters by @highbankcoffee

Summer zine cameras are restocked on the site, to participate, all you have to do is buy a bag of coffee with the camera in your cart. Super excited for the 2026 zine! The first edition from last summer is still up on the site.

Manual brewing is part of the tactile process that we love. A time to reflect on the many hands that made this cup possible. A well loved v60 photographed in the High Bank tasting room and studio. by @highbankcoffee

Fray’s Chiroso continues to stand out for its bright acidity balanced with intense sweetness - attributes from the varietal itself and Fray’s traditional processing method of “cochadas” which involves collecting small amounts of cherry daily over the course of the week, and pulping each days collection leaving it in a tank with water, adding freshly pulped cherry daily. After 7-8 days, the coffee is fully washed and dried. by @highbankcoffee

It’s been a while since I introduced myself and what High Bank is all about!
I’m Luke. I spent my early 20’s pursuing photojournalism, first in the favelas of Brazil photographing gang violence and pacification, and later in the Democratic Republic of Congo where my largest body of work is from, covering human rights abuse, armed groups, and the Ebola outbreak.

High Bank was born out of my passion for storytelling, and I began to see coffee as a document of the story itself.

Much of High Banks storytelling philosophy is a result of conversations with one of my dearest Congolese friends, who passed away two years ago. We spent many exhausted evenings talking about Congo, empowering people to tell their own stories, and his story. The High Bank Zine is a reflection of these conversations, and the belief that the best stories are the ones you tell yourself.
While perfecting the technical aspects of roasting and tasting are my baseline for the roastery, I will always prioritize people and experience over cup score and subjective taste.
Thank you to all who have supported High Bank. Coffee is not an easy industry, but remembering who we are and where we are going keeps me pushing on.
Cheers,

High Bank is more than what you see online. Not only do I frequently have unlisted coffees available strictly for wholesale, but with access to a plethora of coffees from an ever growing network of producers, the potential for exclusive coffees for your brand, cafe, or retail shop are nearly limitless.

The direct access I have is the direct access you have, and I’m always looking for homes for the fantastic coffees from people we trust that just don’t make it to the website rotation. If you’re looking for something offline, I’d be stoked to work with you. by @highbankcoffee

With the birth of my daughter, I’ve been taking a hiatus from Instagram. And it’s been great.
In an attempt to keep the newborn bubble around as long as possible, I will not be attending world of coffee in San Diego, but if you see Gio (@artless_gallery) he’ll be happy to chat High Bank with you.
The 2026 zine is underway with some cameras and coffee already in route to a few. If you’d like to participate, they’re still available on the website throughout the summer.
Fresh coffees and arrivals are being sample roasted and tasted at the roastery currently, but some great ones still remain on the site!
Happy spring, and I’ll see you around.
