🇬🇧: We are honored that Peter Gebei and Akos Schumacher-Kovacs were invited to present at the annual British Referee Conference in Nottingham, England. This opportunity highlights the success of our exchange programs and collaborations with the British Ice Hockey Federation.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation (@hockeyhungary) for facilitating this opportunity, as well as to Ice Hockey UK (@teamgbicehockey) and the IHUK Referee Section (IHUK_referee_section) for the invitation.

Our presentation covered the motto “What Got You Here, Won’t Get You There,” focusing on self-improvement and progression for both rookie and senior referees. Topics included seasonal development activities, our Summer Exposure Combine (@exposurecombine), the benefits of our exchange program, and expectations for professional development.

Throughout the weekend we also conduct several workshops, further strengthening our excellent relationship.

We are delighted to share our experiences and look forward to enhancing international cooperation in ice hockey officiating.

🇬🇧: 💬 In this interview, we talk with Milán Porzsolt about his experiences during his stay in the Netherlands. Alongside his Erasmus semester, he had the opportunity to work as a referee. He discusses the differences in the system there, his new experiences, and how he developed during this period.

🇬🇧: Although we didn’t see Zsombor Pálkövi on Hungarian ice rinks during the 2023/24 season, there was a good reason for that. Over the past few months, he has been consistently working in the German DEL League. It has been a long few months for him, but now that the championship is over, we asked him a bit about how he experienced the past period and what it was like to officiate in one of Europe’s biggest leagues. 🦓

🇬🇧: 🌟 We are proud to announce that this season has seen an unprecedented number of referee exchange programs. Never before have so many programs been realized within a single season. From July to July, a total of 36 referees participated in 18 programs across three continents.

Our referees traveled to eight countries this year, including Israel 🇮🇱, Turkey 🇹🇷, various Western European countries 🇪🇺, and the United States 🇺🇸. These programs provided invaluable international experience and professional growth opportunities for our officials.

Looking ahead, we aim to provide even more opportunities for our referees next year. We have initiated discussions with representatives from higher-ranked hockey cultures who are open to collaboration. We are confident that by this time next year, we will have even more opportunities for our referees to gain international experience.

🇬🇧: This year’s rookie referee training attracted a record number of 87 applicants. The participants underwent an intensive 3-week theoretical course, where they learned the basics of game rules and officiating. Those who successfully pass the exam will be invited to the annual referee training camp, specifically designed for new referees. Here, they can further expand their knowledge and prepare for the upcoming season.

Throughout the summer, we provide them with weekly opportunities at the Óbuda Ice Rink to practice on the ice. This helps them start the season with confidence in a familiar environment, benefiting not only themselves but also the players. 🏒❄️💪

📢 We are thrilled to announce our close collaboration with the Turkish Ice Hockey Federation (@tbhforgtr) this season! 🇹🇷🏒
We kicked off the season in September in Istanbul, by organizing a training camp with the Turkish Ice Hockey Federation, joined by Iranian referees. Throughout the season, we also organized a five-round exchange program, with a total of 11 Hungarian referees traveling to Turkey.

👉 Arrived to Hungary’s Andersen Liga: Berkay Aslanbey and Gökhan Peker

👉 Went to the Turkish Super League:
1st round play-offs: Márton Németh, Dániel Vincze, Árpád Varjú, Balázs Kocsány
2nd round play-offs: Balázs Gáspár, Bence Dömötör, Balázs Sábián
Semi-finals: Gergő Árkovics, Gergely Gebei
Finals: Bence Belák, Máté Gampel

We especially highlight the semi-finals and finals. It is a great honor for us that after last year’s final, this year’s final was also led by Hungarian referees! This year, we are particularly proud that two young referees, Bence Belák and Máté Gampel, officiated the final. 🙌

We thank the Turkish Ice Hockey Federation for their trust and look forward to what the future holds! 🤝🇹🇷🇭🇺
