I love my friends so much. Grateful for them for spending much needed time in nature with me the last couple of weekends while I process my emotions and information overload from getting this cancer diagnosis. I’m grateful to all the friends who’ve reached out, it means a lot. Fuck cancer, good times only! by @hikingleigh

When asked over the course of the day if I was having fun, I mostly grunted and smiled like this 🥴. I knew it was type 2 fun for me, then and now. But I’m also kinda proud of myself for surviving this trip, even thriving a little bit.

I am genuinely shocked I did these things, because I was very nervous going into it and even more nervous on our first night at camp, seeing our objective in clear view and feeling so intimidated. I couldn’t have done it without my team.

Having the opportunity to lead Gen but with her very close by was the best possible outcome. I am so awed by her.

I actually remembered and committed to keeping my OuterU on this time, despite my sweaty face.

The early morning walk up the slabs. Fun, but why was it conversely so terribly un-fun descending them lol. Maybe because I was tired, thirsty and maybe it was the scrittle.

One of the biggest surprises of this whole mentorship is actually how much I enjoy being on a glacier rope team. Because they all have to walk at my pace 😂.

I often worry about the exertion of a steep climb but following in my team’s steps, or a well trodden boot path feels amazing. Especially grateful when they make small steps that I can actually follow!

Steeps! Only a couple of small crevasses to step over, but my heart skipped a little beat still.

Ok this was so spooky for me, I may have held my breath the entire traverse.

Lol you can’t even see the actual peak from this point

Come down the rock portion of Sahale was actually my least favorite of the day, and where I was the weeniest. Had to ask for the kiddie leash to Gen 😅. I learnt a lot about my weaknesses and areas for improvement, and this was the biggest surprise for me

Quien Sabe Glacier. Thought I was going to hate this coming down but it wasn’t so bad, grateful for Allie’s lead on this one!

That alpine sunset really is something, isn’t it? Gen in her element. Not pictured or heard was the screeching marmot on pride rock right next to our camp! lol

I mean, what an excellent color story we’ve got going on. If there was a @kaf_adventures style guide, this would surely go in. Very on brand 🍊🧡

Lived out that weekend warrior life through August. With the bluster in the air and the looming grey not far off, we take what we can get 🛘🍃🍂

Trying to be bolder with these boulders on an easy scramble day with Annie. So fun!

The transition from 4 points of contact to just standing up is not always immediate for me 😂

The views tried hard to open up but the mist was too strong

Found a great seat though. Observe the shorty legs that can’t reach the ground

Many yummy huckleberries eaten on this hike

The ATTP has shifted into its fall programming.

Annual romp up Cloudbeams. Not even rain on a slab could stop us.

A little veggie friction lol

Whatcom Lake for Mr HikingLeigh’s birthday weekend

She Rocks shenanigans

On this evening, I learned of this tiny cow’s existence

Delightful kaiseki experience at wa’z for Mr HikingLeigh’s birthday! Not pictured, an equally yum dinner celebrating our 16th year of being the Trandrews at Fire & The Feast earlier in the month.

The big one! Sahale Peak to cap off the first ever Alpine Rock mentorship with Gen. More to come on this one, so many sick photos.

Final morning before the hike out. Bye beautiful Boston Basin! by @hikingleigh

What luck to have such a great photographer in our midst, while I was trying to embrace the suck and sideline the doubts in my head. 45lbs on my back, and clammy from the sweat, rain and schmoo.

@alexiskarney, your photos are 🔥. Thanks for the awesome keepsake of our first weekend with Gen’s Alpine mentorship. taken in Mount Baker by @hikingleigh

Sampling a little bit of everything this last month with some of my favoritest people. Baby’s first time on a glacier, climbing with new partners, at new crags, doing rock things while not climbing and chilling at home with my little fam, grateful for all of it! by @hikingleigh

Goodness, how is April almost over? I guess time flies when you’re having fun with friends while stressing about the state of the world and the health of our loved ones 🥴.

I haven’t climbed much outside yet, but working on getting those hiking legs ready for the season. What are all your plans for the summer? Can we hang out still? by @hikingleigh

Editing my mentorship vids like it’s a sitcom lol. This show has been renewed for its 4th season, and they’re looking for new cast members who are ready to level up their climbing.

If you’re not familiar with Kaf’s Rock Climbing Mentorship series, it’s got everything:
✅ High-stakes drama (placing gear on your first trad multipitch)
✅ A charismatic lead (Woody, our fearless rope gun and guide in charge)
✅ Emotional growth (maybe the real crux was the friends we made along the way)
✅ A catchy theme song (🎶 everywhere you look, there’s a jug and a crimp to hold onto...)

Mentorship registrations are open now. DM me if you have any questions, I’m happy to share my experiences! by @hikingleigh

How lucky am I to have so many baddies in my life. Women who inspire me and bring so much joy. It was so difficult to focus on just 20 pics from the last year’s adventures. There are so many more warm and kind ladies I got to spend time with, I couldn’t fit it all in! by @hikingleigh

Ice cragging at its finest! Sandstone is kinda slept on, and maybe I shouldn’t spray about it hah. I thought I’d miss being in the mountains, but the zero approach to the tall quarry walls more than made up for it! The climbing was great and plentiful, and as always, and most importantly, the vibes and the people were the most memorable part.

Thank you Woody for an awesome couple of days, for giving up some of your personal climbing time to help me with my goals, and for being so accommodating. What a beaut of a last lap! Shoutouts to Mick for giving me the real talk needed to improve my technique, and the rest of Kaf crew who fed me dinner, and gave me so much love and joy.

Some fun stats:
🧗🏻‍♀️11 pitches over slightly less than 2 full days
📍Sampled Upper & Lower Schoolroom, The Stage Wall & Main Flow Area
📐Longest line was Middle Pillar WI4 at 73ft
😍Favorite line was Matrix WI3+ (or something similar) at Main Flow
🏁30 second walk from car to the nearest wall
🧊2nd day ice was softer, thus easier (but wetter)
⏱️0:55 Woody’s speed record on the dihedral just left of Birthday Candle

I thought maybe October would keep the fires burning just like all summer, but it turns out, neither the heart nor the body was in it.

So instead I rested, and mourned the passing of my dad, the very call of which I had dreaded/half expected for the last 15 years.

In between I found moments of gratitude (and a lot of relief at finally committing to my relationship with the US), and spent time with my little family and good friends. Even learned something new!

The forced downtime of autumn was necessary but good, and now I’m genuinely excited about winter! How are you all doing? by @hikingleigh
