I am a creature of habit. A lover of rituals and traditions. This is the 15th year I’m spending my birthday in Woodstock. One of my happiest places. Today was a birthday dream of cooking, flea marketing, long-walking and speaking with friends far and wide. I don’t feel 53. But here I am. We all left CNN in 2010 and in 2011, we launched our Annual Dinner. These guys stuck with me when I was at rock bottom. And here we are all these years later. Our 15th Annual Dinner!

Well I was a bit broken when I got to Paris, but this city put me back together again. I’m always so grateful for the comfort and surprises Paris offers year after year. An old, familiar city that’s always changing and growing and stretching. A work of art! So glad I went to Marseille, as well. Next year, Lyon! Now I head home will a full belly, a restored mind and a happy heart. And roughly 10 lbs of butter. ❤️ 🇫🇷 taken in Paris, France by @hillarud

A beautiful and boisterous day wandering around Belleville. It was the weekend of the Portes Ouvertes, when local artists open their studios to welcome visitors. You get a map and try to visit as many ateliers as you can. Really the most fun is just seeing what’s behind all the doors.

As you probably know, Paris was gripped by soccer madness and every neighborhood erupted (most just in cheers…but some in violence). You’ll be happy to know I broke no windows, burned no cars and made it back to the apartment in one piece (if not 💯 sober).

This vacation is winding down but it’s been spectacular. Paris…there’s nothing like it. taken in Belleville by @hillarud

Today was a day of 4 familiar pilgrimages:

1) to rue Nicolet (the small street in the first photo) and @iglainevintage, a one-of-a-kind vintage store I recommend to everyone. It’s a dream.

2) to La Grand Epicerie de Paris, where I bought a 12-month supply of butter. Instagram has discovered it now and I was a bit mortified to find myself amid a throng of tourists at the butter case. Though, of course, I am also a tourist.

3) @caseycaseyworks my dream label. Their only store. My favorite Paris splurge. Got the coat.

4) Soces again. It just gets better. I dream of those whelks!

But the highlight of the day was the two plus hours I spent at the Lee Miller exhibit at the museum of modern art. An American model in the 30s, she morphed into a war photographer in the 40s. For Vogue! The Vogue! Her life and her work were just extraordinary. I loved learning about her so much. by @hillarud

The highlight of my day (and a highlight of this whole trip) was meeting up with my old friend @sullyseanjay and his awesome son. We grew up together as baby producers at NY1. It was the best of times. Laughs. Tears. Beers. More beers. Bruce. Just wonderful. And after all those dive bars and sloppy late nights we still turned out ok.

The day then took me to the Grand Palais to see the phenomenal Matisse exhibit. He was my aunt’s favorite artist. The last photo in this post is her old apartment with her Matisse poster on the wall - it now hangs in my bedroom. The exhibit was inspiring - it features Matisse’s work at the end of his life, when he experienced a burst of creativity that produced some of his best known art. I think about this stuff as I age.

The rest of the day was a glorious roam without any real destination. Oh and I found this long coat (scroll through to see). They’re holding it for me. Should I get it? Be honest. Don’t lie! by @hillarud
