There was a time when I was fighting for my health and uncertain about what my future would hold. To now be celebrating 60 years of life is something I will never take for granted. Every year is a gift, and this milestone is truly a reminder of just how far God has brought me.

They say there’s less than a 2% chance you’ll ever meet your donor’s family.

I was blessed to be one of the few who did.

My donor left behind a seven month old daughter. Today, she is 10 years old, and one of the ways I choose to honor my donor’s incredible gift is by helping raise money for her college education through the Audrey Rivas Education Foundation.

After being told I had just 72 hours to choose a heart transplant or face the unthinkable, I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life. There was a moment when I questioned whether I even wanted to keep fighting, but I’m grateful I did.

Three months later, I received the gift of a new heart. Today, that second chance is the reason behind everything I do, including the Audrey Rivas Education Fund.
If sharing my story helps even one person choose hope, prioritize their health, or keep going when life feels impossible, then it’s worth it.

I’m sharing my story because I don’t want someone else to make the same mistake.
Especially to the men reading this: Stop putting your health on the back burner. Get the checkup. Ask the questions. Listen to your body. Strength isn’t ignoring the warning signs. Strength is taking action before it’s too late.
If my story encourages even one person to take their health seriously, then sharing it is worth it.

I had a second chance at life.

As a heart and kidney transplant recipient diagnosed with cardiomyopathy in 2004, my path has been one of resilience, faith, and perseverance. My transplant didn’t just save my life, it gave me purpose.

My foundation the Audrey Revis Education Fund, is dedicated to honoring that gift by helping others find hope in their own journey.
