The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to the film ā€œHouse Party 2ā€ was released on October 15, 1991, through MCA Records. The soundtrack would peak at No. 55 on the #BillBoard200 & No. 23 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. This would show an improvement on the charts from the film’s first soundtrack ā€œHouse Party.ā€ The soundtrack would feature the charting singles: Kid ā€˜N Play’s ā€œAin’t Gonna Hurt Nobodyā€, Tony! Toni! Toné!’s ā€œHouse Party II (I Don’t Know What You Come to Do)ā€ & Ralph Tresvant’s ā€œYo Baby Yoā€.

The soundtrack captures the vibrant energy of early 90s Hip-Hop, R&B, & party culture while complementing the film’s college setting & themes of friendship, independence, romance, & self-discovery. I especially love the movie sound clips before a song plays. This was a formula I use to enjoy from some of those early 90’s soundtracks. It set the stage of what type of song was going to play next.

Building on the playful spirit of the original House Party, the soundtrack helped extend the movie’s atmosphere beyond the screen. Its upbeat production, rhythmic grooves, & youthful confidence reflected an era when film soundtracks were an important way for emerging artists & established performers to reach wider audiences. They don’t make soundtracks like they use to any more.

These black comedy films were dope & entertaining to me. It remains a nostalgic snapshot of early 90s Black pop culture. It was a time which represents the crossover between Hip-Hop, comedy, fashion, & youth-styled cinema, while preserving the carefree but ambitious spirit that made the House Party franchise culturally memorable. Classic!

Take time to spin this today if you got it.

šŸŽ¤šŸ”„ SCARFACE – MR. SCARFACE IS BACK (1991) šŸ”„šŸŽ¤

35 YEARS OF SOUTHERN HIP-HOP HISTORY!

Before the legendary solo catalog, Scarface of the Geto Boys unleashed his debut album in October 1991 through Rap-A-Lot Records.

Raw Houston street narratives, haunting production, vivid storytelling, and that unmistakable Scarface delivery. This wasn't just another gangsta rap album. It helped establish one of hip-hop's greatest storytellers.

šŸŽ§ Classic cuts: šŸ”„ Mr. Scarface šŸ”„ Born Killer šŸ”„ Diary of a Madman šŸ”„ Money and the Power šŸ”„ A Minute to Pray and a Second to Die

šŸ’æ From my personal collection: VINYL + CD! Two formats of a Southern rap classic that still hits hard 35 years later.

Respect to Brad Jordan, J. Prince, and the Rap-A-Lot legacy! šŸ¤˜šŸ¾

Released on October 12, 1999, through Rawkus & Priority Records, this album showcased Mos Def’s lyrical prowess (Mathematics), thought-provoking themes (Fear Not of Man), & innovative production (UMI Says), solidifying his status as one of the most influential artists of his time.

ā€œBlack on Both Sidesā€ served as Mos Def’s debut solo album, following his success as a member of the Hip-Hop duo Black Star alongside Talib Kweli. The album was highly anticipated & it exceeded all expectations, receiving critical acclaim & commercial success. The gold selling album, which is close to platinum status, peaked at No. 25 on the #BillBoard200 & No. 3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop charts.

I was 19 when this dropped & ā€œMs. Fat Bootyā€ was on heavy rotation but on a mix CD I would burn for the whip. I didn’t catch wind of the album until I saw the poster in one of my fraternity brothers apartment room while I was attending the University of California, Riverside. A huge Mos Def fan, he played ā€œUMI Saysā€ while we got DEEP into thought & conversation while playing Nintendo (8 bit version). I knew who Mos was, through SoundBombing II & Blackstar but I got to know who he was as seasoned artist & was hooked. Love this album! It’s Hip-Hop & an element of what the rap game needs. This album features an emphasis on socially conscious lyrics. Not a Gangsta Rapper but a full on emcee!

Proud to own the 25th anniversary pressing of the album part of the Interscope vinyl collective. It’s limited to 3000 copies, numbered (currently own 2,246) & features an alternate monochrome cover, a 2LP gatefold jacket, custom printed sleeves, a lithograph insert of the original front and back cover & is pressed on translucent black ice vinyl with a clear stripe. Also got a traditional repress as well. Both unopened as I aim to do a vinyl unwrapping edit.

If you got this album give it a spin today.

Warren G dropped his 3rd studio album
ā€œI Want It Allā€ on October 12, 1999, through his own label, G-Funk Entertainment & Restless Records. The album would debut & peak at No. 21 on the #BillBoard200 & No. 4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Charts. The album would earn a gold plaque selling over 500,000 copies world-wide.

The album marked an evolution in Warren G’s musical journey, showcasing his signature blend of West Coast G-funk & Hip-Hop production. With its catchy hooks, smooth/laid-back style lyrics & an engaging mix of grooves & melodic elements, along with a star-studded guest appearance list, Warren G gave us a pivotal moment in his career. The album doesn’t get the attention I feel it deserves. The production is marked with melodic samples, some funky basslines, & an overall sound that resonates well with me.

I was in Ft. Gordon Augusta, Georgia when this album dropped. While in the service if you weren’t Cash Money or No Limit that fall of 1999 you weren’t heard. I had saw Warren’s album at the store one weekend & purchased it. That fall I was enjoying the album along with other West Coast drops until I came back to Cali. I was pretty much stuck on the first 1/3 of the album on repeat. It was great to hear Warren rap alongside Tha Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg & RBX. Wish I got more of it but later on grew to appreciate his collabs with others like the Ruff Ryders, So-So Def & Roc-A-Fella artists.

Proud to own this original pressing of the album from 1999 in GREAT condition with hype sticker & all. Take time to spin this album if you got it today.

The ā€œcomebackā€ album from the Danish rap group / duo NATKAT after a 7 year hiatus.

Rapper Frej Levin and producer Floppykat burst onto the Danish rap scene a bit over 10 years ago with their throwback analogue boom-bap sound.

Frej had already had some success as a rapper when he was a kid. At 10 years old he entered the Danish Rap Championship for Kids and at 12 he was in the leading freestyle rap competition MC’s Fight Night and debuted on their compilation with a track produced by Sundsdal, who was producing for one of the biggest Danish rappers at the time and ScratchMagic on cuts.

It would be about 10 years though until he and childhood friend Aske The Floppykat would start this group. Floppykat had been starting to get a bit of hype for his SP-1200 & S950 beats on YouTube and cratedigging foras / groups.

NATKAT’s run was really only a few years when it comes to releases. The first album was released in 2018 and followed up by an EP on cassette tape in 2019.

The same year they played at Roskilde Festival and ended up disbanding after which Frej ventured into different projects outside of hiphop.

But now 7 years later they are back with a deeply personal album with Frej developing as an MC and Floppykat having his dad - jazz-trumpet player Hendrik JĆørgensen playing on several tracks. And DJ Eazy on cuts.

They released a limited 7ā€ earlier this year and had a completely packed street-concert outside of Rekords. The single sold out in an hour and now they had a sold out release party at Stengade and they are going to play in Store Vega in April 2027.

Just some good ol’ boom bap with some conscious and very personal stories. And I love it.
The album even comes with instrumentals on the second LP.

The cover art is taken from an old Danish anti-drug comic that was very hiphop by Bryan d’Emil. You can see the original comic in front of the cover.

Entre sus canciones más destacadas se encuentran "What You Wanna Do?", "O/G's Trippin'", "Land of the Skanless" y "Murdering, Slanging & Scrapin'".
