One of my favorite pressings. It's so obscure and weird, but pretty cool too!

Tha Dogg Pound - Cali Iz Active
This is definitely one of my personal favorite Dogg pound albums. It obviously doesn't come close to something like Dogg food, but I think this album is pretty excellent for what it is.

New in my Collection – Jay-Z: Reasonable Doubt (2026 Reissue Cassette)

Released in 1996, Reasonable Doubt introduced the world to Jay-Z’s sharp lyricism, vivid street storytelling, and unmatched confidence. More than just a debut, it became one of the most respected hip-hop albums of all time and laid the foundation for one of the greatest careers in rap history.

Thirty years later, this 2026 cassette reissue brings a true classic back to one of the formats that defined the golden era of hip hop. There’s just something special about holding a timeless album like this on tape.

🔥 Fun Fact:
When Reasonable Doubt was first released, it sold only around 43,000 copies in its first year. Over time, however, it became a certified hip-hop masterpiece and is now considered one of the greatest debut albums ever made.

38 years ago today…

N.W.A.’s iconic debut album “Straight Outta Compton” dropped on August 8th, 1988. The album brought the Gangsta Rap genre to the main stream & all though many dubbed the album as foul & destructive, the group saw themselves as reporters telling the world like it is in the streets of Compton. The album would peak at No. 37 on the #BillBoard200 almost a year later in July 1989 & No. 9 on the R&B & Hip-Hop charts. Slow & steady. It’s been accredited as the first Gangsta Rap album to reach platinum status. To date, the album has sold over 3 million copies world-wide making it their best selling album.

I was about 9 years old, maybe 10 when I fully grasped who N.W.A. was. My older cousins had this album along with Eazy-Duz-It on heavy rotation in the city of Alhambra, California. By 1991 when the single “Always into Somethin’” dropped I was fully aware & up to speed. I can’t stress enough how those VHS recordings of the music videos from The Box had a major impact.

On March 29, 2017 the album was archived in the Library Of Congress National Recording Registry. These are albums that “are culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant, and/or inform or reflect life in the U.S.” A year earlier in 2016, it became the first rap album inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame along with the group members themselves.

This single LP pressed on 180g Red Vinyl is one of my personal gems in my collection. Found & purchased it on @thesoundofvinylus & have no regrets. Mos def nostalgic & takes me back to my early days of arriving to Cali from Georgia & reuniting with my cousins.

Take time to spin this classic if you got it today!

Keep Spinin’
