3 reasons I never looked back:

1. I stopped training just for aesthetics.
For the first time in years, I cared more about what my body could do than how big it looked. Muscles are important, but your heart is your engine.

2.Cycling gave me another way to express myself.
Colour pairings, loud graphics, technical fabrics, ridiculous face masks. Cycling somehow turned exercise into another form of personal style.
It’s one of the few sports where performance and lifestyle overlap so naturally.
You can care about watts, aerodynamics and fit... while still caring about how everything looks together.
And maybe I’m biased, but cyclists generally dress better on and off the bike too.

3. Socialise
Some of my favourite parts of cycling aren’t even on the bike. It’s sitting around after a ride talking absolute shit with people who somehow became close friends.

I spent most of my life thinking fitness meant looking fit.
I grew up skinny-fat, got to university and became obsessed with getting bigger. Bodybuilding turned into strength training, strength training turned into calisthenics, and for a while I thought I’d found my thing.

Then life happened.
I moved countries, chased my career, worked in apparel and manufacturing, drank more, trained less, and eventually moved to Melbourne knowing almost nobody.

So I started searching again.
Gym. Golf. Running. Back to the gym.
Nothing really stuck.
Then a health check changed the way I thought about all of it.
I looked fit on the outside, but my bloodwork showed hereditary high LDL cholesterol and made me realise I’d spent years training the muscles people could see while barely thinking about my cardiovascular health.

I wanted to change that while I was still young.
I needed cardio.
I wanted challenge.
I wanted to make friends.

And, being someone who has spent his career around clothing, I still wanted to look good doing it.
Then I found cycling.

It gave me everything I’d been looking for in different places: performance, endurance, progression, fashion, gear, friendships and a community that actually made me want to keep showing up.

Somewhere along the way, I completely fell in love with the sport.

So if you’re new here, this page is basically me figuring out how to become a better endurance athlete without losing the strength, style and identity I spent years building.
Still learning. Still getting dropped. Still buying kit I probably don’t need.

MAAP × Mental Athletic might be the loudest MAAP collaboration yet.

MAAP brings the polished performance silhouette. Mental Athletic brings the graphic chaos. And those neon sleeves? You’ll recognise them from the back of the bunch.

My prediction: this won’t sit around for long.

Cycling got way too serious for a minute.

MAAP × Public Possession might be my favourite drop this year.

More colour. More graphics. More personality.

Minimal kit or loud kit?

One expensive hobby would’ve been too financially responsible.
Bike parts🚲
Clothes 👕
First-harvest matcha 🍵

Apparently I just enjoy turning very normal things into extremely specific requirements 😅

What hobby made you financially irresponsible?

After 5 years working in fashion, these are 5 things that completely changed the way I buy clothes:

1. Every good garment starts with the fabric.
Before the logo, the styling or the marketing, there’s the cloth. Weight, handfeel, drape, recovery and structure determine how a garment looks, feels and ages. A great design made in the wrong fabric is still a bad garment.

2. Fit will always beat price.
A $150 jacket that fits you perfectly will look better than a $1,500 jacket that doesn’t. Shoulder width, body length, rise, leg shape and proportion matter more than the price tag.

3. Proportion is more important than individual pieces.
A good outfit isn’t necessarily five amazing garments. It’s five garments that work together. Wide trousers, cropped jackets, longer layers, shorter layers. It’s all about balance.

4. Expensive doesn’t automatically mean well made.
Price tells you what a brand charges. It doesn’t necessarily tell you what something is worth. Start looking at fabric, construction, stitching, trims and finishing instead of assuming a higher price means higher quality.

5. Good personal style is repetitive.
The best dressed people usually know exactly what works for them and keep coming back to it. Similar silhouettes. Similar colours. Similar proportions. That repetition eventually becomes your identity.

The biggest thing I’ve learned?
Trends come and go. Don’t be afraid to invest in good quality items that will last multiple years.

Save this before your next shopping trip.

Follow for more things the fashion industry probably won’t put on the swing tag.
