I whipped up a quick 1890s shirtwaist using the @black_snail_patterns pattern with fabric from @jackmans_fabrics1903 for a picnic with the @mourningsocietystl today! I’ll need to fix the collar of the blouse before I wear it again, but it was so comfortable to wear now that the weather has cooled down. A fun time was had by all! It’s been a surprisingly busy month for me! Between starting a new job and being busy with training, I’ve managed to escape to the 18th century (within reason- air conditioning was sought after) for 4 weekends in a row!

Photos 1-2 were taken at the @americangirlbrand store in Chicago to celebrate the lovely @sewstine’s birthday! I also had to snag a photo with the new Josefina- my Josefina doll was older than most people there 😂🥴 We took a group photo but I’ve yet to find it. If you have one, please send it my way!
Photo 3 was from the fashion show hosted by @ensembles_of_the_past for Ste Geneviève’s 250th celebration
Photo 4 was from Fort de Chartres. I escaped to the gift shop to go bother @littlebitgerman and soak up as much AC as possible (it was ridiculously hot last weekend)
Photo 5-6 are from last night’s frontier dance, hosted by @visitstegen for their French Heritage Festival. It was lovely seeing @7letterdeborah and @ensembles_of_the_past again ☺️

The main event I made this dress for was Le Bal des Arts, hosted by my good friend @sewstine. I saw the gown that Princess Vicky (Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter) wore in 1883 and fell in love with it! I regret having not taken more pictures, but that’s usually what happens when I’m caught enjoying the moment. I’m still riding the post-event high and will be catching up on sleep. Hot off the needle! An early 1870s gown in a lovely lilac-colored satin made for my friend, @7letterdeborah ! She’ll be calling a dance in a couple of weeks and needed a new gown to wear. Although this is my favorite era ever, this is the first 1870s gown I’ve ever made. I used @black_snail_patterns for the dress (I modified the bodice a little) and TV’s grand bustle pattern. I also added a balayeuse and used the #PriorAttire book for trim inspiration. SOLD: 1860s straw bonnet. Fits best on a head that’s less than 23” (58 cm) around. All silk and cotton except the flowers, which are both new and vintage, but unknown content. The flowers on the crown have some glued and plastic components, but I made sure those were hidden (ETA: I’ve since ordered a vintage spray to replace these flowers). It’s been a week since the fashion show with the lovely @chihistoricalcostuming and I’m already itching to go back. @sinistra.marissa outdid herself and hosted such a lovely event! Here are more details about my dress (and the paper doll that served as inspiration): the yellow silk is from @renaissancefabrics and the plaid is from @nydesignerfabric. The ribbon is from RibbonworksDesign on Etsy (I dyed the beige colorway to make it match closer to the yellow silk). My finished #DonaldDuck from a vintage @simplicity_creative_group pattern! When I couldn’t find a decent Donald crochet pattern, I knew there had to be something out there I could sew. The pattern went together fairly quickly, despite many small, fiddly pattern pieces and lots of cutting. I used non-pill fleece for the body and felt for everything else.
