L322’s do L322 things sometimes. Still the best cars out there.

Nothing we can’t handle on this one. A few common issues have reared their heads. A new inlet manifold, egr deletes, front brakes, @michelinuk cross climate tyres and this one’s ready to go…once I’ve changed the torque converter too!

Really good to see how clean the engine is internally, it shows this one’s has been well maintained throughout its life.

Obviously, a man who already has an Audi R8 in his garage needs another one. This will be his third.

Between Tommy and me, we now have 19 cars. It’s got to the point where it took me a couple of attempts just to count them. One of them I’ve never even seen.
On a daily basis, I think about cars I’d like to buy. Tommy, on the other hand, actually buys them. He even bought a 20th while on a ride at Universal a couple of weeks ago, although that one didn’t work out. Phew.

There are plenty of stories about him buying cars from the bath and in all sorts of other unlikely places, but this one felt different. This one felt planned. I don’t think I’ve seen him this excited about a car since his second special, and forever car, the CLK63 AMG Black Series.

I know an obsession is going to end in a purchase when the spreadsheets come out, he disappears down a YouTube rabbit hole watching videos about his target and starts deep-diving forums at all hours.

I’ve questioned the logic of buying a second (third) R8 when he already has a manual V8 at home, but really, I understand it. I know how special these cars are.
An R8 GT was actually the first truly special limited-production car I ever had anything to do with. For about two weeks, I sat next to one in my first job at Huntingdon Audi. I wasn’t even allowed to sit in it, but it was one of the first cars I ever photographed for Instagram. I remember being completely fascinated by it.

So, somehow, all these years later, here we are.
This life will never not feel a little surreal to me. But I’m incredibly lucky to be able to share my passion for cars with the person I love. He may be hopelessly lost to cars… and worryingly addicted to auction platforms… but he’s one of the good ones.

A good heart, a very bad car habit, and apparently room for one more R8.

Ps I also a little bit blame @reperformance for this because apparently they told Tommy that the R8 GT was the best R8. Like a red rag to a bull.

And I can confirm the McLaren McL 6GT looks seriously good…

… and the manual is the real deal.

I can almost hear all my friends thinking the same thing… Helen’s actually in these photos?!

Yep, I can’t quite believe it either. So proud of myself. Nothing fits anymore 😂 … which, funnily enough, made squeezing into this diddly thing much easier.

When Tommy told me he was bidding on this car, I wasn’t surprised, it was almost inevitable. But I was very surprised by how much I’d enjoy it. This car proves that value has nothing to do with how enjoyable the drive is.

Within an hour of driving it for the first time, I’d already written a full story about it for @theintercooler. It’s actually my 4th Smart car, and by far the best.
