Abi Daniel is a Texas-born artist based in Austin who creates meticulous, Flemish-inspired still life paintings. Before a brush ever touches the surface, she carefully builds and lights each composition by hand, creating a small world inside a simple cardboard box.

These arrangements become deeply personal symbols, where everyday objects stand in for memories and emotions. Painted over the course of several years, each work is built through countless layers of oil paint, balancing soft, disappearing edges with moments of striking clarity. Abi’s paintings invite viewers to slow down, notice the light, and spend time with the stories hidden in everyday objects. taken in Preacher Gallery by @hoarsefly

Sometimes you get lucky. Or privileged. Or blessed. Or all of those things. Sometimes you get to find a person that you really wanna stick with, who really wants to stick with you back. And you get through the thick and the thin and then you get to a really hard, thick, scary part, and your person gets to make it through. I’m so grateful Josh made it through. And we’re so privileged that we still have some protections from insurance and that family came through when it got real scary. And we’re so blessed that our friends at Fort Lonesome and Kong Screen Printing, with Kevin Whitley, put together a fundraiser for us while we were in the fog and haze of recovery. We’re having a lil party from 5-9 tomorrow at Flitch/Fort Lonesome/Bearded Lady. There will be drinks and oysters and beautiful donated art for sale. Come say hi. by @hoarsefly

If you’ve dropped by our studio over the past decade, you’ve more than likely met our beloved shop dad @beardedladyatx and his trusty sidekick, Frankie. We’ve shared a space with Josh since early 2017 and consider he and his wife Abi part of our family. We quickly gave him the moniker “Shop Dad” because he went above and beyond to take care of and beautify the space in ways we didn’t even know we needed. We’ve spent many a late night working through relentless deadlines and encouraging/crying/rejoicing with each other every step of the way. He keeps everything functional, thoughtful, and we will say WE ARE NOT WORTHY!

Josh was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the end of 2025 and has spent most of this year preparing for and undergoing surgery/recovery. Thankfully his doctors say he is now cancer free (yayyy!), but the road to recovery is long. Let’s get Josh back to doing what he does best (screenprinting, hiking, camping, and dancing!!!).

Want to help? You can donate monetarily or purchase an item from one of the artists or makers on the site below:

We are also hosting a big ole party at our studio on July 10/11 where you can see items from the website in person. There will be beer from @liveoakbrewing hop water from @stelmobrewing live-screenprinting from @kongscreenprinting and a very special FT Lonesome Shop Dad Flash page! Maybe there will be some Josh wine too…

Special thanks to crew from @kongscreenprinting and Kevin from @cherubsbandatx for making this happen! by @hoarsefly
