"Sketched On Top"

@kmsn_anim is a Germany-based director and animator with over 18 years of experience bringing characters to life across every medium imaginable.

His signature? Mixing worlds. He layers hand drawn 2D animation on top of live action footage, creating a playful collision between what’s real and what’s imagined. Food flies off the table, characters burst out of their packaging, and the everyday becomes something unexpected. It’s bold, it’s fun, and it makes you look twice.

His talent has taken him from advertising campaigns for global food and lifestyle brands to the biggest names in entertainment. He has contributed to major Hollywood productions and worked on beloved titles for Disney Television, Netflix, Nintendo and Universal Studios.

Whether it’s a 15 second social ad or a feature film, Kim-Quy brings the same energy: fast, expressive, and full of personality. He adapts to any style, but always keeps that spark of surprise that makes mixed media so exciting.

“The In-Between”

Kyeongbae Kim is a Seoul-based animation director who explores what happens when emotions change shape. His work digs into anxiety, desire, and the invisible tensions that run between people. Every transition becomes a way to reveal what words cannot.
His visual language is raw and intense. Colors collide, figures morph and dissolve, and nothing ever stays still for long. There is beauty in the unease, and he knows exactly how to find it.
Kim has directed animated sequences for iconic K-pop cultural documentaries, as well as films for the worlds of video games and music videos. Whether personal or commissioned, his work carries the same restless energy and emotional charge.
He brings to every project a unique ability to turn inner conflict into striking, moving images. Each frame is a threshold.

HOLANG-I / FOCUS ON: « New Castle FC » by Joonho Ko

«The project came about when IMA, Newcastle FC’s communications partner, reached out to collaborate on an exhibition held in Seongsu, Seoul, to coincide with the club’s visit to Korea.

The main challenge was to translate some of Newcastle’s most memorable matches into a visual language that would resonate with Korean fans. The idea was to project those moments through the club’s symbol, the magpie, while thoughtfully incorporating a few Korean cultural elements. Fortunately, the magpie is also Korea’s national bird, which created a natural conceptual bridge and allowed the project to develop quite smoothly.

In terms of personal highlights, there were several meaningful outcomes. Seeing the strong reaction from Korean Newcastle supporters was special, and having the work later displayed in the club’s museum was a real honour. That said, what stayed with me most was the process itself. Working very closely with the IMA team, especially Josh Baker, under an extremely tight schedule, we pushed through late nights to reach a shared goal. Producing fifteen finished illustrations in roughly three weeks, refining details through constant dialogue with the client, and ultimately using the work in a live exhibition was demanding but deeply rewarding. It reinforced how essential clear communication and shared commitment are to making a project truly work.»

HOLANG-I / FOCUS ON: « Lucky Owl with Shimako » by Yoko Kuno

« This work was created as the opening video for a Japan-China-Korea event, themed around the city of Toshima Ward in Tokyo.
Toshima Ward is home to many locations connected to manga and anime. Historically, it was also the site of Tokiwa-so, the apartment where Osamu Tezuka and other renowned manga artists once lived.
This work was created by live-action director Nobuhiro Yamashita and animation director Yoko Kuno, the same team behind the feature film « Ghost Cat ANZU. » Like Anzu, it uses rotoscoped animation.
The story begins with a four-year-old girl getting lost at Ikebukuro Station. This short animation depicts her journey through a vibrant, paint-like world filled with gachapon machines, cosplayers, the Zoshigayakishimojindo Temple, the Tokyo Tram, and her eventual encounter with a mysterious manga artist.
Above all, we prioritized bringing the lively city and the child to life in our production. »

HOLANG-I / FOCUS ON: « ONEPLUS "UP TO PLAY" » by @auv.creative

« OnePlus Nord Buds 3R project began with a question that was both exciting and daunting: « How can we bring earbuds and characters together in one story? » That challenge influenced every stage of the work, from designing characters inspired by the product’s shapes to animating movements that showcase its features.
Exploring this new style made the journey even more special.Because the project demanded a stronger sense of motion, we spent a lot of time shaping the rhythm and flow, making the movements tighter, more intense, and full of impact. In the end, we pushed beyond our limits and created an animation bursting with energy. We are proud of what we created and grateful for the chance to work on such a unique and rewarding project. »

HOLANG-I / FOCUS ON: « Destiny 2 : Heroes Welcome » by @donwurun

«The Destiny 2: Heroes Welcome campaign was one of the most challenging yet rewarding projects I had the chance to work on. The main difficulty lay in developing and managing the 2D/3D pipeline under a tight deadline, as I had to both creatively direct the overall look and feel of the project while also supporting our small animation team by animating certain shots myself. The client requested a 2D hand-drawn anime style, which required extensive early look development. The real challenge was to translate this aesthetic into a 3D pipeline while preserving the expressive, hand-drawn qualities without making the result feel overly digital. My role was primarily that of creative director, but I also took part in the animation whenever needed. Balancing the artistic vision with the technical execution was demanding, yet deeply rewarding: not only did we deliver a final product that fully met the client’s expectations, but the campaign was also recognized with a Bronze Award at the AEAF Awards 2022 in the Web/Viral category, a proud achievement that highlighted the success of our approach.»

HOLANG-I / FOCUS ON : « Hey Dad » by @roywang_illustration (5’ short film)

« This film is a relatively quiet animation with minimal action, which meant I had to focus heavily on the characters’ subtle movements and expressions. Unlike live-action, animation often relies on exaggerated gestures and facial expressions to convey emotion.
But as I mentioned earlier, my visual approach is more aligned with the aesthetics of slow cinema. Because of that, I couldn’t use the typical rule of animation to express emotion.
Instead, I had to rely on nuanced movements that were restrained enough to preserve the film’s tone, yet still clear enough for the audience to notice. As a result, the animator and I spent a significant amount of time fine-tuning every tiny gesture and expression.
This short film was born out of my own personal experiences. Creating it felt like slowly untangling a knot that had been lodged in my heart for years, which made the process not just meaningful-but transformative. Simply completing the film was already something I felt deeply proud of.
What made the journey even more rewarding was hearing from audiences at festivals around the world who shared how much this simple story resonated with them. It affirmed something l’ve always believed: that only stories which come from a deeply honest place within ourselves can truly connect with others.
That’s why l’m most proud that this deeply personal work has become more than just a reflection of my own story. It has also offered a quiet space of recognition and release for others who’ve experienced similar interpersonal relationships. »

“Working as a New York Times game illustrator for the Strand Sidekicks project has been incredibly rewarding. I love seeing my illustrations update each day to give players subtle hints for Strands. The challenge lies in offering guidance without giving anything away—you have to convey clues with a light touch and cheerful visuals that gently lead players in the right direction.”
