If you’re thinking about taking your family to Chicago, save this one. ☺️🤍

We kicked off our summer road trip with a few days in Chicago, and @langhamchicago truly felt like the perfect home away from home.

It was that little touch of luxury without ever making us feel like our three littles were out of place. Quite the opposite. 🥹 From the moment we arrived, our kids were welcomed with open arms. The sweetest bear keepsakes were waiting for them, and by the end of our stay, the staff and doormen were greeting them with hugs every time we came back through the doors. It’s those little things you remember. 🤍

We added Club Lounge access to our stay and LOVED having a place to pop into throughout the day for breakfast, snacks, drinks, meals…and an impressive amount of candy. 😂🍭

But one of our favorite surprises was the Kids Suite. A dedicated space just for little guests to play and unwind between adventures?! Every family-friendly hotel needs this. 👏🏼

The location was perfect, too. We could walk to the riverfront, shops and restaurants, spent an afternoon exploring Maggie Daley Park and cooling off in the water play area, wandered around Millennium Park…and then came “home” and ended our last night with a movie in the hotel theater. 🥹🍿

It somehow gave us the best of both worlds: experiencing Chicago with our kids while still feeling like we were actually on vacation.

A few days later, we packed up the car and headed into Michigan for the next chapter of our summer road trip. 🚙🤍

Chicago, you were the sweetest way to begin. ✨

For 10 years, we’ve celebrated this day as our wedding anniversary.

I recently read about the psychology behind giving children little “jobs” at home. Even something as simple as straightening the shoes by the front door or putting a napkin at each place for dinner.

They may seem like tiny tasks to us, but to a child, they can communicate something much bigger:

You are capable.
You are needed.
What you do matters here.

And I haven’t stopped thinking about that. 🥹

Our intention with these jars isn’t just to reward “good behavior.” We want to notice their effort, kindness, responsibility, helpfulness and those little moments when they choose to try.

They’ll get to work toward special treats and one-on-one dates with Mom or Dad, but what I really hope they’re gaining along the way is confidence in themselves.

And obviously, at two, Covey’s “Reward Jar” is mostly just play right now 😂🤍 He loves being included with his big sisters, and honestly, even that feels like part of it. He gets to feel like he has a place in what our family is doing too.

I want our kids to grow up with an “I can do that” mentality instead of automatically thinking, “I can’t.”

To know that they have something valuable to contribute.
That helping matters.
That trying matters.
That they matter. 🤍

Just a little experiment we’re starting in our family. I’ll share how it goes. 🫶🏻
