Last dive out with the pole spear til next summer! I shot this mutton in 55ft and grouper in 60ft, along with a nice cero midwater. Kept four quality fish and let so many go by. I’m very sensitive to only keeping what we can eat and being selective and intentional when I’m spearfishing. It was really just awesome to be out there and dive such an abundant ecosystem. And had the usual challenge of getting the fish to the boat with at least four hungry reef sharks in the water the whole time! Man, am I going to miss spearing all my own seafood like I have this summer. But it’s nearly that time to jump hemispheres and get back to surfing 🐟🦈

Hit a PB depth of 50.5m (166ft) with the mask on today! So stoked! I truly love it down there. Just my body, my mind, and the ocean. Always learning and trying to improve and be a better version of myself. Thank you @underseakeke @freedivingfarreall for everything. What a fun summer it has been with you guys! And thank you @acespearo @bertaluk @jesseuliana @surffishdivedave @hawaiifreediver for sharing a tip or two and some encouragement on the line, it has meant more than you know! Deeper depths to come.

Yellow Jack: Ocean to Table 🐟🍣
Took a couple drops on a ledge at 75ft with my buddy Kai. Pretty strong current, not the best viz, a crazy cold thermocline, and we just weren’t seeing much. Finally I made a drop and saw a nice school of yellow jacks cruise through near the end of my dive. I came back up and told Kai to get on em! Kai went down, took his time, got a nice shot on one, and it was on! As he pulled the line in at the surface, I saw a bull shark coming for the fish, so I took a dive and followed the line down to fend it off. I put a second shot in the fish, stoned it, and brought it up. It was a quick sesh just looking for some dinner and man was that mission accomplished! The next evening, Taylor and I rolled sushi while Kai made poke and pan seared. All of this was done with this one fish to enjoy with three other friends. And we still ended up with leftovers! Truly amazing how many people one fish can feed. And that’s what it’s all about. Working together and celebrating the fruits of our labor. Nothing like knowing the story behind your food, where it came from, and what it took to get from ocean to table. Stoked and full of gratitude and respect for this fish and the ocean providing! 🐟🍣
