Happy last day of home ed 2025-2026 girls!
Nam’s last year of Primary Y6/5th Grade
Kairi’s finished Y8/7th Grade

I planned super hard for this year to be full of adventure, excitement and fun. We started off with the biggest celebration yet, hours of planning, decorating and organising. But then... life decided it wanted to throw all kinds at us and somehow, even though it feels like it was only September last week, you’re both another year older already.

We still had fun though. We had trips, days out, we saw friends, went to groups, we wrote, drew, experimented ran, swam and so much more.

Today we celebrate! We had the special breakfast, you opened your book gifts for summer reading, we did a quiz and went swimming and filled in our time capsule.

As always, thank you both for giving me the joy of facilitating your learning for another year. I am honoured as always to watch you grow up and forever grateful for every extra day I get with you.

Seashore March 2026

A very last minute week away that was truly needed.
We swam, we played games, we danced, we competed, we won happiest table. The time with family was precious, the journey home was hard.

I’m so proud of the girls for all the effort they put into swimming, smashing their goals!

Absolutely broken to be back to reality again. Hoping that the universe comes back on our side soon. Another trip needs to be booked!

Haven, miss you already. by @homeedstaff

Welcome to the Heartwood Hotel!

Nam has been working so hard on her homemade tree doll’s house this term. She’s started off with just a few round boxes and bit by bit she has glued, cut, painted, printed, designed, and shopped to bring the project to life.

Today, she finally got all the flooring and wall paper on, (it’s taken a while to cut it all to size and sort the windows), then we made some fantastic furniture for inside the Brambly Hedge themed store stump.

She cut brooms, sourced second hand carpet, made pumpkins, designed barrels. She spent a long time finding the perfect flooring and wallpaper matches! Every item has been foraged or recycled in some way. And I’m so proud of how it’s turning out.

Cannot wait to see what she does next! by @homeedstaff

For science today we learnt all about cell membranes 🧫

We kicked off our new approach to Blossom & Root Level 6 Biology with a look at the fascinating world of cell membranes!

🎥 We watched two videos
🧠 Discussed and explored the “big picture” ideas
🗣️ Narrated what we’d learned
✏️ Created our own index-card notes and drawings
🎤 Presented our learning back to each other
🫧 And finished with a hands-on bubble experiment!

The biggest win? K was smiling and laughing during science. 🥹❤️
And when we had to leave, they both wanted to keep playing with the bubbles when we got home.

Science doesn’t have to mean squeezing an enormous amount of information into one lesson. Today was about seeing it, talking about it, doing it and enjoying it, and it worked. ✨

It might not be lichen week in @raisinglittleshoots exploring nature with children yet, but we found some beautiful nature treasure this week on our walk and I just had to photograph them. The girls love the idea from the curriculum this week where we took a hot chocolate out with us and set up a little picnic. It was so nice to sit and nature journal with a nice drink. Every time I head to the shops I never manage to find pre-made pumpkin spice mix. For years I’d skip the recipes, until I found out it was SUPER EASY to make!
Now we always have pumpkin spiced everything September through til November!

~~~Recipe~~~
Combine:
3tsp ground sweet cinnamon
2tsp ground ginger
1 1/2tsp ground nutmeg
1tsp ground cloves
1tsp ground allspice
This Apple oat crunchy breakfast was so cozy and autumnal for our first week.
It’s one of those dishes that the kids actually eat and make you feel like you’re winning at parenting, “what do you mean they ate apples AND oats for breakfast?!”
It’s super simple to make and is the perfect quick fall breakfast food.
(I recon it would be a great dessert with ice cream too!)
~~~ Recipe ~~~ (serves 2-4)
Chop 3 apples and fry until soft with a little butter

Add 3-4tsp brown sugar, 2tsp cinnamon and 2tbsp honey
Cook until golden

Pour in 1 cup rolled oats
Mix
Cook until toasted

Serve into a bowl
Top with natural yoghurt and a drizzle of honey

Eat in a cozy environment (with your favourite people!)

Seed week nature walk for us today with @raisinglittleshoots Exploring Nature With Children

We grabbed a sunflower head from the garden, then headed on a a very long nature walk to a new area. We followed the river down and ended up in an outskirts part of town that we’ve never been to before.

We collected 6 different seeds to bring home (and a bag of elderberries & blackberries for dying fabric with)

On the way back, we stopped under a horse chestnut tree to nature journal.
