POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
If you’ve been wondering how to work with me, or how much a shoot is, this one’s for you.

I’ve had open pricing for years now. Everything is listed on my website, because I think you should be able to check whether something is in your world without having to ask me first. For the work that needs a quote, like brand video, I list a starting price so you know roughly what you’re looking at before we even have a conversation.

What most excited about at the moment, is personal Brand Story Package - I love being able to combine photos and videos to tell a layered story.

All the details, dates, and contact info are on my website. Link in bio. Or you can DM and I’ll send you the direct website link.

It’s been a while since I introduced myself properly. So here’s a little about who I am, what I do, and how life and work intertwine around here creative chaos and all.

If you’re new here, welcome.
And if you’ve been following for a while, thank you. I’m so glad you’re here. X

Honey Atkinson (@honeyatkinson) is a familiar name around here, and this time we’re stepping into her garden to look a little closer at her front border, full of hardy plants.

SWIPE to find Honey’s six planting combinations from her 10-acre property near Bermagui (Southern NSW).
Thoughtful pairings chosen for colour, texture, and a garden that doesn’t demand constant attention.

A lovely one to save if you’re wondering what to plant in a border for hardy layers.

Comment HONEY, and we’ll send you the full garden feature. by @honeyatkinson

Late autumn 2025. A roll of film I almost forgot about.

This roll seemed to have some issues… Light crept in through the seals of the camera, finding its way to the edges of the film near the sprocket holes and leaving this ripply, green-tinged bleed across a couple of the frames.

You can see Matilda the cat, tiny in the corner of frame 2, if you look closely. My youngest with his wild blonde hair and whatever weapon he’s found in the garden that day. Dark clouds, a few breaks of sun after rain, some pink in the sky, a rainbow or two. Things cut back for winter lying around in piles. I LOVE the quality of late afternoon autumn light… and I don’t think digital cameras capture it in the same way.

I shoot film because I can’t fully control it. Which is a strange thing for a control freak to say. But there’s something that loosens in me when I load a roll of film.

I’m keen to shoot more film for client work this year. If you’re curious about it and happy to come along for the ride, any of my usual packages can be shot on film. The magic tends to outweigh the imperfection.

This week’s newsletter features my first ever newsletter exchange, and I’m so glad it’s with these two.

Gab and Daniel from Bandicoot have been making pots together on the Far South Coast for years, each with their own distinct style, a shared name, and somehow a functioning relationship on top of it all. I photographed them a couple of years ago and have been an admirer ever since.

A newsletter exchange is simple. I feature someone and they do the same for me with their audience. We both grow our lists a little without anyone having to dance on Instagram.

The full Q&A is in this week’s email. Not subscribed yet? Link in bio.

A huge swath of moths and a few butterflies appeared here on Saturday, as they did for most on the south east coast.

It was a wild event, one I’ve never seen to this scale since living in NSW. I was in absolute awe.

I watched them landing on the rose geranium, grevillea, lavender, clover, drinking nectar. We were so delighted we could offer them an abundant food source. There were a few witch moments when I opened the doors and piles of moths fell to the ground or blew up in a mini swarm. Ahhh, screaming out-loud!

By yesterday afternoon the rain came, so needed. And now there aren’t many left. The fleeting moment they were here has left me with so many questions.

I think they were bogong moths, hatching from the soil where they feed on nectar, gaining 60% of their body weight before heading to the alps for summer.

So what happens now, where are they?.. did they make it, how many make it? Far out nature is AMAZING!! by @honeyatkinson

A weekend with my friend Sahra, shot on film. No brief, no client, no outcome. Just the two of us in her garden and home in Cooma.

@sahraonthefarm put together a violet syrup for a Hendricks cocktail, which we obviously had to drink. There were hellebores on the table she’d picked from the property. And then outside, this fairytale scene. Hundreds of bulbs pushing up through the ground in front of bare winter trees, the light ffs, so good!!

I shot the this series on 35mm film, Portra 400. I haven’t touched the colour in these, just lifted the exposure slightly. That richness is all the film.

Making time for personal work is genuinely hard. It’s the first thing that gets pushed when life is full, which it always is. But every time I actually do it I remember why I started all of this. Sahra is just as busy as I am and we had to really wrestle this weekend into existence. Worth every bit of it! taken in Cooma, New South Wales by @honeyatkinson

Social media isn’t going anywhere. But I don’t think it’s going to look the same in five years either.

So I’m trying some other things alongside it. A local newspaper ad. Posters on notice boards. Coffee catch-ups with people I already know. A dream about printing a zine.

None of it is revolutionary. But it feels good to not have all my eggs in one basket.

I’ve been really inspired by a podcast called Off the Grid by Amelia, link in the comments. She has a free download with 100 ideas for marketing outside of social media and I highly recommend it.

If you want to read the email I sent out about this earlier this week, get on my list. Link in bio.

***And a note on what it actually takes to post something like this.

I recorded this four times. One take the microphone wasn’t picking up properly, one take I was half out of frame, one take I kept stumbling over my words. Fourth time, done.

Then I sat there playing it back, adding the captions, listening to my own voice going, do I really sound that nasal? Why did I wear that shirt? I said zine wrong again. Why am I even sharing this, does anyone actually need to hear it?

This is the reality for most people posting talking to camera content. It does get easier. But those voices don’t fully go away.

Just in case that’s useful to know. taken in Bega, New South Wales by @honeyatkinson

Held is an ongoing black and white film series I’ve been working on for the last two years.

I photograph women, then rewind the film and take it to a place in nature where they feel safe and connected. The two images sit on top of each other. The person and the place, held together.

This is Kirsty. She runs @camelrocksurfschool here on the Sapphire Coast and has been surfing since she was twelve. I took her portrait, then rewound the film and went to Morehead Beach. The waves, the rock shelves, Mt Gulaga.

When I asked her what the water teaches her, she said one word. Patience.

I’d love to shortlist one or two out of the series, do you have favorite? I find it interesting what resonates and doesn’t. taken in Bermagui, New South Wales by @honeyatkinson

You’re probably the one behind the camera. This one’s for you.

Portraits in Bloom collaboration between myself and Nadine from the @the_ivyinstitute - 30-minute portrait sessions held in Nadine’s Ivy Greenhouse in Thirlmere, an hour south of Sydney, on Saturday 24th October.

You’ll choose from a few seasonal floral styled scenes and walk away with five edited images and one fine art archival print, posted to you.

A Saturday with nowhere to be…

Meditation, stretching, my boy who finds his way into my bed for a snuggle. A peek at the garden as the sun comes up. Crepes, because it’s a weekend ritual. Sourdough pizza dough mixed up. Strong cacao in the garden (my version of coffee). Starting the pump, so we can water the garden later. Down to the dam with the dog. Beach, swim, whales, seaweed for the garden.

A second meditation while the kids watched TV. Hours of watering. Sourdough pizza to end it.

Forty seven seconds. A full day. Tired, grateful and full.

This reel was actually homework. I gave everyone who came to my Phone Video Workshop last week the same brief, so I figured I better follow through myself. by @honeyatkinson
