#TBT #Throwback to today and to two-Thurdays in-a-row, talking about the CARE framework: CONNECT, AFFIRM, REFRAME, EXPLAIN...New #teacher workshops

WHY use it?

1. It helps to organize teaching and leadership practices that have been shown to drastically improve learning and working outcomes for people with marginalized social identities

2. These interventions are about consistent preventative signaling to students, staff and faculty alike that you value them and value difference.

3. This frees up cognitive capacity, allowing one to learn more effectively and efficiently, as well as engage more deeply.

The CARE model framework is guaranteed to help reduce opportunity gaps in your schools, classrooms, labs, and offices.

Reach out to @symba.solutions (symbasolutions@gmail.com) and setup a workshop...

Watch the Churen respond... #SocialJustic You wanna know how Integration was in 1969...Listen to Maria. My Father "Hondo" is gone, but he was there...

🙏🏾 The #VillageInitiative for Equity in #Education pulled up to Clara Byrd Baker #elementaryschool w/ a p group of prayer warriors, at my elementary #school . Her name CBB represents excellence! She was more than a teacher, but an everything, from voting rights to women's sufferage, the @naacp and more in the community I was fortunate to be amongst the 1st graduating class of students from this school.

To go back was amazing...The conversation of Integration for 4th graders was based around a movie about the era, and the classes of 1964-1969 going into schools like Rawls Byrd and James Blair (W&M Prez). The voices on the panel illuminated what it means. They were the aunties that the children didn't know they were gonna receive that day...

The students were absolutely great, in tune, responsive, and observant. About 30 of them had questions... Responses varied and were very insightful. Maria Tabb-Norman drew a-round of applause based on her story of resiliency, super funny, you should just watch.

SN: The term "spook" was adopted as a derogatory racial slur for Black Americans, peaking in use from the mid-1940s through the 1960s. It originated during World War II when German forces referred to the Black pilots of the Tuskegee Airmen as the "Spookwaffe"

Thankfull to the good people @william_and_mary the @williamsburggov and @visitwilliamsburg for allowing me to voice one of the people that helped create our nation.

Anthony Roberts drove a wagon for the First State Regiment. Six generations later, his family created a living memorial in the form of a sixth great-granddaughter who lives nearby (Senate District 24). She went on to say, “God knows how many Patriots of color there are in the Williamsburg, York County, and James City County areas; if you don’t do the research, you’ll never know.”

“The Historic First Baptist Church of Williamsburg, Virginia, founded in 1776 by free and enslaved Black people, stands as one of the nation’s oldest Black churches and a lasting witness to the faith, struggle, and resilience of the Historic Triangle and the surrounding counties.”

If you want it to more directly acknowledge prominent local families and landowners in a historically sensitive way, a stronger version would be:

“The Historic First Baptist Church of Williamsburg, Virginia, founded in 1776 by free and enslaved Black people, is one of the nation’s oldest Black churches and a powerful reminder of the deep, complex history shared by the Historic Triangle, its businesses, and the surrounding counties.” by @hoosblee

Thinking bout the people. I walked by today! “It’s a church of tomorrow."In those days, the congregation was led by the Rev. L.W. Wales Jr., who had followed his father as pastor in 1927. Between them, the pair led #MountArarat Baptist Church from 1885 to 1963. But it’s also a church of today,” said Carol Thomas, Mount Ararat #BaptistChurch in #Williamsburg, #VA @varevolution250 , is a historic African American church (founded 1882) where Rev. James B. Tabb Sr. served as a long-term pastor for 30 years until 1996. Tabb's legacy is tied to the church's role in the community and his family's history; as his father was associated with the area's earliest Black-owned funeral services, prosiding as @naacp President for the area. A dual Pastor of #RisingSun in Yorktown, VA.

This is a man who sprung out of the Magruder population of people, in what is now known as a Naval Weapons Station. He was a part of his grandfather's legacy at Oak Grove Baptist church, which in the same area known as the CIA base, The Farm. He was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church, who kept and continued on in business with the Tabb-Whiting Funeral Home. Home of Judge William Thomas Stone Sr. the first African-American judges appointed in Virginia in 1968. in the area of colored descent. They started the own legal, pastoral? And disposal business. That's sustains tp this day.

Significance: Founded around 1882 during Reconstruction, it is a pillar of the African-American community in Williamsburg, having survived being pushed out of the Colonial Williamsburg restoration area in 1932.

Rev. James B. Tabb Sr.: Served as pastor for 30 years, dying in office on March 6, 1996.

Legacy: The church, often known for its deep roots, was a place where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once spoke.

Family History and Funeral Service

Rev. James B. Tabb Sr.'s father was known for his work in the community, providing crucial, early, Black-owned funeral services in the area, a necessary service for the Black community during that era.

Just shouldn't light on my people during black history month BHM @blackhistory

I post this because I am thankful for their acknowledgment of the issues that we had going on in #Richmondpublicschools I did not call them. I did not ask them to show up , but they were just there...

After 34 years of service, the Richmond Free Press officially ceased publication on February 12, 2026.

The Black-owned weekly #newspaper was a cornerstone of Richmond's #media landscape, dedicated to empowering the #AfricanAmerican community and elevating marginalized voices. by @hoosblee
