BREAKING NEWS: Local lad v catfish 🎣

Reports are coming in from the Brisbane River. Peter hooked something big today, and it put up a long, hard fight all the way to the surface.

We can now confirm it was a stick.

Peter did not give up. Round two was a proper catfish, a big thumbs-up, and a final score of Peter 1, Fish 0. The stick denies any involvement.

Meet Xavier. And Biscoff. And Betty, who got a little closer to the camera than we planned.

Xavier runs his own dog walking business, @pawson_point, and this is what a morning with him looks like. The ball goes up, everyone holds their breath, Biscoff holds it the longest, and then it’s one big throw and a lot of zoomies.

He has more than 250 hours of volunteering with the RSPCA behind him, so the dogs are in very good hands. Betty is still checking the equipment, just to be sure.

Your support worker should not be cooking for you.

Not everyone. Some people can’t cook, and that’s fine. This is about the people who can learn, with the right support.

Like Peter. He didn’t know a recipe from a shopping list. So Ryan showed him. One step, one Wednesday at a time.

Peter picked the meal. Bought the ingredients. Read the recipe himself. Ryan’s hands stayed ready, but Peter’s did the work.

Now he cooks from start to finish. That’s not support. That’s someone learning to lead his own life.

From 1 October 2026, funding for some NDIS supports changes.

On the Department of Health pages, budget allocations for social, economic and community participation supports are reduced by 50%. Improved daily living skills supports are reduced by 10%. A lower allocation does not necessarily mean you spend that much less if you were not using the full allocation.

That is two support groups, not every line in the plan. Health says critical supports and other plan parts sit outside this change. Some supports inside those two categories also stay out (for example employment and high intensity).

The change lands when a plan is created or reassessed from 1 October 2026, or renewed from 1 February 2027. Health applies it as plans turn over from 1 October 2026 through 30 September 2027. You keep using your current plan until that moment.

For Brisbane families we support, this budget policy sits on Social and Community Participation and Independent Living Skills. It is separate from SIL registration, Provider Registration Rules, and the 2027 high-risk registration work.
