An overnight excursion from France to Italy and back. From my base at @hotelsaintroch I rode over a pass to Bardonnecchia where I had a fabulous pizza and an early night. The following morning I rode the most incredible climb up one of the highest gravel roads in Europe, Colle Sommeiller, with the guys and gals of @lepilgrimage. Now, I know I get excited about bikes and mountains and stuff a LOT and often describe things as ‘amazing’ but this…. Well, WOW! The gravel road up was made even more beautiful by the clouds and shifting skies, Alpine cattle grazed along the route and I just felt so lucky to be there. At the summit, just shy of 3000m, I ditched the bike and went for a wander, ate some cheese at the refuge and prepared myself for a fun descent. 3, 2, 1, allez, allez! Le Pilgrimage 2026 is underway. As tradition has it, we stayed close to home for Stage 1, following the trails of the Pays des Écrins. First along the Durance. Then climbing via Réotier towards Cabane de Tramouillon. The first stamp was waiting there, in the alpine meadows around the old shepherd’s hut. Hungry riders took a seat around the table for cheese fondue. Some simply couldn’t resist pairing the fromage with a glass of Savoie wine. From there, the journey continued through the Vallée de Freissinières before finishing with our climb de la maison: Col de la Pousterle, the backdoor towards Puy Saint Vincent and reach our own beautiful valley. A first day full of everything we could wish for. Shared trails. Shared food. Shared stories. À demain, pilgrims. Encore un peu dans les nuages après nos deux éditions de La Ferme Colorée au Refuge de la Pousterle. Pour ces deux rendez-vous un peu particuliers, nous avons eu la chance de nous installer au Refuge de la Pousterle et d’y accueillir nos invités dans un décor exceptionnel. Après une montée à pied jusqu’au refuge, place à la découverte des saveurs de notre vallée autour d’une grande table partagée. Des produits locaux, de saison, préparés par @Anne_Pekelharing et son équipe, avec les montagnes tout autour. Une belle rencontre entre randonnée, cuisine locale et moments partagés. ~🇬🇧~ Still on a high after our two La Ferme Colorée editions at Refuge de la Pousterle. For these special occasions, we had the chance to take over Refuge de la Pousterle and welcome our guests in a truly beautiful mountain setting.
