Friends, dearest @pobbins and family are kindly holding a memorial service for our much missed friend @samarathomasart this coming August 15th, at the Tin Tabernacle in Hythe, 2:30pm.

All are welcome, all are encouraged to come and share grief, tears. memories, smiles, hugs and love. No dress code, just bring yourselves.

Please let me and / or @pobbins know if you intend to come so we have a general idea of numbers.

Care package from @rebelpropaganda of the amazing Hooked Lung zine. Thanks to Hooked Lung for asking me to write a short essay on music streaming. After many years of releasing records with scores of labels and artists, and reading @lizpelly’s incredible new book - we go go further than ‘streaming is bad,’ - in a wonderful bonus mini-zine WHAT WE DO IS SECRET, I reflect on how underground culture has been seduced by speculative corporate level visibility, ‘hope labour’ and as we progress, the excitement and joy of pulling out of a global, industrialised landscape in favour of the small and the real.

First wave of S***ify and in some cases total streaming takedowns have gone in this week. More coming over the coming weeks right across our artists and labels.

You still banging the drum about not being paid properly by an arms dealer, or are you ready to take back some ownership and dignity in your work and your life?

Every single day you leave your music on Spotify is another day you consent.

At this point leaving your music on Spotify is a conscious political act in favour of a military entrepreneur. Scab for a billionaire warmonger all you want, but don’t pretend you care about revenue, community, arts, society, and we can now even chuck speculative investment in the mass-m**der industry on the pile.

Your moaning and shrugging is hollow because you’d rather scab for all these things for exposure, visibility and convenience. Those of you making no money from it are the worst of the lot, you don’t even have skin in the game, and you still simp for it.

Spotify exists because we all consent. Every day we don’t take our music down is another day we consent. by @hotsalvation

There are few bastions of evergreen games journalism, and it’s increasingly difficult to discern opinion from copy-pasted content creation in the name of quota. There is nothing else I have found which walks between community, music and game design like this. Personal opinions from devs and musicians, away from the towed line of PR, are sorely needed, as is the call to embrace the DIY, the grassroots, the microdev; to engage with the medium irrespective of metrics. If you can find a copy, get one. by @hotsalvation
