At a mid point whilst @thea__grant is deep composing and producing for a new album, and a year after the beautiful WATER AND DREAMS we share two brand new tracks today. Thea creates entire sound worlds from sampling her own voice, from delicate arpeggiations to monolithic subs, what is becoming apparent is that with some accuracy, Grant can illicit overwhelming emotional responses almost completely non-verbally. Her sound design is meticulous, rich it’s own narrative, Thea paints with sound, broad strokes; magic-hour warmth, longing, yearning, hope, distance, regret, love, it’s all in there. If this points the way for a new records we cannot wait. UNTIL SUNSET and SKYLACE are now available via Bandcamp as well as Shadow World and Thea Grant webstores. This EP isn’t available via streaming sites so if you want to hear SKYLACE you need to actively engage.

There are few bastions of evergreen games journalism, and it’s increasingly difficult to discern opinion from copy-pasted content creation in the name of quota. There is nothing else I have found which walks between community, music and game design like this. Personal opinions from devs and musicians, away from the towed line of PR, are sorely needed, as is the call to embrace the DIY, the grassroots, the microdev; to engage with the medium irrespective of metrics. If you can find a copy, get one.

UNTIL SUNSET NOW STREAMING FULL EP RELEASES FRIDAY JUNE 13 A year since acclaimed debut full length WATER AND DREAMS was released via Shadow World, and in the midst of her UK/European live dates at the personal invite of Jenny Hval, THEA GRANT shares the two brand new track UNTIL SUNSET The new material further refines Grant’s skill for deeply evocative sampling and sound design, heart wrenching, abstract composition and a performance style that conjures what is fast becoming a signature sense of yearning and romanticism, constructed entirely from her own voice. Until Sunset glows like a motion picture shot at magic hour, gentle sound waves undulate while Thea’s delicate vocal refrain dance like heat waves on the horizon. Listen now.

“DISEMBODY” emerges not as a sequence of songs, but as a phenomenological reduction—a stripping away of body, identity, boundary, and time, revealing what lies beneath perception itself. DISEMBODY is the second album by CURA MACHINES, the project of composer Daniel Lea, and it feels less like a follow-up to NEURO than an afterimage—a vapor trail of its former nervous system, now dispersed, rewired, made spectral. Where NEURO mapped the terrain of the mind under pressure, DISEMBODY floats freely in the slipstream of something post-human, post-body, post-form.
