Korean barbecue meets high-end steakhouse culture at The Dancing Pine, which opened quietly last month in Sakura Novi, a new Asian-themed outdoor mall on Grand River Avenue. With a name inspired by Korean folklore, it’s the latest concept from Ann Arbor restaurateur Min Kyu Kim.In his late 20s, Kim founded the Korean quick-service restaurant Kimchi Box. Since 2021, it has grown to nine locations statewide. His hospitality company, Seven York Inc., has also been behind local restaurants like Dae Jang Keum, Tomo Sushi, The Seoul, Blue Fish Asian Cuisine, and Mama Satto. But Kim says he’s never done anything quite like The Dancing Pine.“Since basically 2022, I had the idea to bring an elevated Korean experience to Michigan,” says Kim. “This is my first foot in the door of luxury, full-service dining.”Tap the link in our bio for the article.Writer: @j.henry.thomasEIC: @katewalsheditorPhotography: @resimonovMentioned: @the.dancingpine by @hourdetroitmagazine

Life in a sprawling metropolitan area like metro Detroit can sometimes feel removed from nature. But despite the past few hundred years of human development, our state remains home to more than 8 million acres of public land ready to be explored — from two peninsulas and ancient formations dating back 3.5 billion years to five National Park Service sites, 103 state parks, and recreation areas spanning more than 360,000 acres. And while there’s plenty of human ingenuity to be found in our state, sometimes the natural world has a way of taking our breath away. Here are a few places in Michigan that do just that. How many have you visited?Slide 1: Arch RockSlide 2: The Porcupine MountainsSlide 3: The Black RocksSlide 4: Kitch-Iti-Kipi of “Big Spring”Slide 5: Sleeping Bear DunesTap the link in our bio for the article.Writer: @j.henry.thomasEIC: @katewalsheditorPhotos: (Slide 1) Sara Wills; (Slide 2-5) @puremichigan by @hourdetroitmagazine

Jack White’s first ever concert at Pine Knob Music Theatre this weekend is sold out. But fans who couldn’t secure a ticket can stream it online through Nugs, a subscription-based streaming service, per an announcement online. The service costs $5 a month and is currently offering the first three months free for new members. Fans can access the stream at nugs.net/jackwhite.Jack White is stopping by Pine Knob on July 25 in support of his new album Frozen Charlotte. White is giving shine to two notable local bands on the opener list. Easy Action is a legendary Detroit punk band fronted by John Brannon (Negative Approach, Laughing Hyenas). The other opener, Prostitute, is an up-and-coming Dearborn-based noise rock band whose debut, Attempted Martyr, received notable praise from Pitchfork and The Needle Drop. Though Motown founder Berry Gordy called his Boston Boulevard mansion home for only a few years, the estate remains steeped in history. The footsteps of influential figures, from politicians to some of music’s biggest acts, linger in its hallways. With grand, Renaissance-style architecture, an imposing presence, and a storied past, the mansion seemed destined for a ghost story. Now, it’s starring in one.Haunted Heist, an independent feature film directed by award-winning actor and comedian Rel Howery, hits theaters on July 24. The mansion serves as the spooky setting for a genre-bending romp that blends horror, comedy, and crime.Comedian Karlous Miller plays the ringleader, who summons three longtime friends to a mansion in hopes of stealing an antique dagger worth millions. They reluctantly go along with his scheme, only to discover that the home’s former owners never truly left. To survive, they must set aside their differences and work together to escape the spirits’ deadly plans.Tap the link in our bio for the article.Writer: Morgan BrownEIC: @katewalsheditorPhotography: John SippleMentioned: @hauntedheistmovie @comedianlilrel @karlousmHave a comment you want read by our team?
