New Work Spotlight ❤️🫱🏽‍🫲🏾 *Explorations that were rejected that I loved* Swipe to see progress for the final piece. 👉🏽👉🏽 It was a pleasure to work with Riz Ahmed and WeTransfer to create custom artwork around his philosophy of creative expansion and evolution. We started with exploration, sketches and a conversation. Using the creative journey as a reflection for the spiritual journey within, we highlighted how to explore that visually. Final poster design with my students from the Design Summer Academy workshop in China.🇨🇳💅🏽🛸 @designsummer_academy This poster was inspired by my time in China and all of the elements of slowing down and embracing stillness. Hand painted watercolor and ink to express slow freedom of typography and a regal calligraphy lion. Ornamented with a poem by Chinese poet, Li Bai. I lead a 2 week workshop in Hangzhou with designers and helped them integrate meditation, movement and hand painted elements into typographic experimental posters. Through our 2 week programming each student worked on their own poster with freedom combining personal elements and expression with typographic exploration. Ultimately leading to a final gallery showcase at the end where the whole campus got to see the fruits of our creativity. Poster show is up until Sept. 11th, at Hangzhou Hesign Design Gallery No.1 Chuangyi Road. We are happy to be collaborating with House of Gül to bring “Opening of a Flower,” featured in the third issue of Kahf to the public. From the personal collection of Ali Van Godil, the work reflects on the soft spiritual opening of a flower blossoming. Its title draws on Al-Fatiha, meaning “the Opening,” and the opening chapter of the Qur’an, evoking the divine movement of new beginnings.
