Our New Home!!!

For the past year or so, my wife and I have been talking about going on a big adventure. Packing up, leaving the place where we grew up, worked, made memories, built friendships.

So, we decided to sell the farm, buy an RV, and travel for a while. We keep thinking to ourselves, we’re healthy right now, and we still have the ability to enjoy life and experience new things, so why wait?

As you get older, you start to realize there are things you may never get the chance to experience if you keep waiting for the “perfect” time. And the truth is, there may never be a perfect time.

So we’re going for it! We’re leaving this winter. We don’t know how long we’ll be gone. We don’t know if RV life will work out for us. We don’t even know if we’ll love it.
But we’ll never know unless we try.

What’s the worst that can happen? It doesn’t work out? Have to start over? If anything, this last year or so has taught me is that if you’re willing to put a little effort into something, you can do almost anything you want. You don’t have to have it all figured out from the beginning. Sometimes you just have to take that first step, give it a shot, and see where it takes you.

I don’t know where we will call home again, or what’s waiting for us out there on the road. And honestly, that uncertainty is part of what makes this so exciting. We’re super excited, nervous, scared, overwhelmed, and absolutely overjoyed all at the same time. And you know what? These are all amazing emotions to feel.

Life is short. One day, we won’t get the chance to do some of the things we can do today. So why not do them while we can?

Here’s to taking the chance, chasing the adventure, making memories, and figuring it out along the way.

The reason I called this the most beautiful hike I’ve ever been on is the context.

The rain transformed this place. It brought out a kind of beauty that I don’t think we would have experienced on a clear day. Even more surprising, there was absolutely no one else on the trail, something that’s hard to find in Iceland. It felt completely isolated in the best way.

We were soaked by the end, but it didn’t matter. If anything, the rain made the experience even better. The sound of the water, the atmosphere, the feeling of being out there alone, it all came together in a way that’s hard to describe.

It wasn’t just the scenery that made this hike so special. It was everything happening around us at that moment

A LOVE LETTER TO MY BASEMENT GYM.
Today I can’t help but feel grateful for a place that has given me so much more than just a workout.
As my wife and I sell everything and head into vanlife, I found myself reflecting today while working out in my basement gym.
Almost 10 years ago, I fell two stories and broke my back. Since then, this basement has been a place of rebuilding. A place of patience, discipline, and learning.
For five years, I worked out alone down here without ever stepping foot inside a commercial gym.
I look at this dumbbell rack now and can hardly believe where I started. It began with nothing more than a pair of 10 pound dumbbells. Today, I look around and see so much more than equipment. I see years of showing up, even when I didn’t feel like it. I see the person I was, the person I became, and all the work it took to get here.
This basement has seen it all. Pain. Sadness. Happiness. Joy.
This is where I worked through grief. Where I tried to make sense of learning that my best friend in the world, my dad, had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia at such a young age.
This place became my sanctuary. A place to shut out the noise, sit with my thoughts, find my balance, and grow. A place where I could work through the things I didn’t always have the words for.
And more recently it became more than a place for my own healing. It became a place where I could help other people find their own growth, work through their own struggles, and discover what they were capable of.
I’m really going to miss this place. As we get ready to leave this chapter behind and head out into the unknown, I just want to say thank you.
Thank you for being my escape.
Thank you for being my place to heal.
Thank you for helping me rebuild.
Thank you for reminding me, over and over again, what happens when you refuse to give up on yourself.
To my basement gym, thank you for being part of the journey. You’ll always be a part of me.

I’ve been really debating whether I should make this post at all. I tend to enjoy celebrating other people’s victories and wins far more than my own, and honestly, that’s where I get the most enjoyment out of all of this.

This training block had plenty of challenges along the way, but I got it done. And more importantly, I had so much fun doing it.

The HYROX community is absolutely amazing. The people, the energy, the support, that’s what makes this so special for me.

This may be my last HYROX for a while. I’m not sure when or where I’ll be able to train for another one, as I’m transitioning into RV/van life and I honestly don’t know what training is going to look like for me moving forward.

So it’s a little bittersweet. In some ways, it feels like the end, even though I feel like I was just getting started.
But that’s life sometimes. You have to make decisions, pursue other things, and occasionally give up something you love to make room for something else.

Anyway, HYROX community, you might see me out there again someday. I’m not sure when. But wherever life takes me, I’ll always be grateful for the joy this community has brought me over the last year and half.

I can’t thank you all enough.
