Catch How Green Nursery on @bbctodayprogramme on @bbcradio4 tomorrow at 7.20am. We'll be discussing our decision to pull out of contract growing for the @the_rhs Chelsea Flower Show for 2027. There are many factors including extremes of weather, financial margins and stress for the team and business that is making show growing increasingly challenging. Coupled with the RHS's stance on 100% peat free for next year, we've gracefully withdrawn. We're fully committed to becoming 100% peat-free with our own production by the end of 2026. We're so nearly there! With our experience in 'growing on' in peat free for the last six years, we're extremely confident of meeting our target. A bit too soon for us for the 2027 show season! What a lovely evening spent @bedgebury.pinetum with the Gardeners Get Together organised by @qjstark Amazing tour of the arboretum by the extremely knowledgeable and entertaining @luscombed , curator of the arboretum. Great to see the work being done on saving some of the planet's rarest trees. An insight to possibly some of the trees for the future with the extremes of weather now experienced in the UK. There is a grass that we are always asked for and we’ve found it very tough to grow the last few years - Melica uniflora f.albida. The native wood melick Produces dainty grain-like white flowers over lovely dark green foliage. A great grass for dry, shady areas. This grass is incredibly difficult to grow in the commercial environment, and we (and numerous other growers) have found it almost impossible to grow……until now! We could tell you how we do it, but we’d have to kill you!! We have plenty in stock right now and have another batch on the way. #ornamentalgrass #gardening #gardens #melica by @howgreennursery
