Hi I’m hiding back here behind the camera, but sometimes my husband picks it up when I’m at the beach with wind blown hair trying to keep an eye on the 3 year old chasing the seagulls 😜🌊 I have a serious question for y’all. What are you doing to build your local community? Like what groups do you belong to, or what groups have you started, what gatherings are your favorite… bonus if they’re free to attend. I wanna hear how you’re connecting with your local community. I’m in 2 book clubs, one with friends and one I just recently started right here in my neighborhood. I also go to the library with my kiddos alllllll the time. I’ve been thinking a lot about how much time is spent on a screen, and how addicting they can be, for all of us. I had the honor of attending TRYING IRL: Grief, Loss and Love, featuring my friend @danielle.levanas.therapy this past Saturday. She read her essay from the first issue of @bywayof.us’ It’s Ok To Try about the loss of her mother 5 years ago, and the loss of her childhood home in the Palisades fire. What followed was vulnerable, open, honest conversations among the attendees, somehow exactly what I needed (what I think most people need in this moment). It all happened in such a beautiful space as well @gambogela. I’m obsessed with gatherings like this where people are willing to talk (and hear) about things in the shadows, things that can only strengthen us all when they are brought to life in a calm, supportive environment. The struggles are what connect us y’all; we’re more alike than not. Thanks @danielle.levanas.therapy for always inviting me into fun/weepy/connected gatherings, and thank you for your beautiful essay. 💫💖🙂 taken in Los Angeles, California by @howlandrose

12 years ago, these two lovebirds got married, and I still think it was one of the best weddings I’ve ever been to. (I did meet my husband there, so I’m not biased at all 🤣💖) Happy anniversary to some of the best people I know! If you’re like me and you don’t always take your phone out when there’s a photogenic thing happening with your kids, and tell yourself “it’s fine! I’m in the moment!” But then a few minutes (or days) later, think how nice it would be to have that photo…. Maybe invite me over to hang out while you play?
