Hi I’m hiding back here behind the camera, but sometimes my husband picks it up when I’m at the beach with wind blown hair trying to keep an eye on the 3 year old chasing the seagulls 😜🌊 I have a serious question for y’all. What are you doing to build your local community? Like what groups do you belong to, or what groups have you started, what gatherings are your favorite… bonus if they’re free to attend. I wanna hear how you’re connecting with your local community. I’m in 2 book clubs, one with friends and one I just recently started right here in my neighborhood. I also go to the library with my kiddos alllllll the time. I’ve been thinking a lot about how much time is spent on a screen, and how addicting they can be, for all of us. Gonna be striving for more real life connection so let’s start with sharing what we’ve got going on already! I would love to hear from you 💖

If only I could spend every Saturday morning in community like this! Thank you @bywayof.us for hosting this rich and energizing conversation about grief and loss and love. Thank you to @gambogela for welcoming us into your magical space and to @howlandrose for the images that captured the essence of this moment. I read my essay “Revisiting Home” featured in @bywayof.us’s new magazine It’s Ok to Try, and then we engaged in conversation and art making as we explored the rhythm of light and shadow seasons in our life.

(p.s. @bywayof.us is hosting another conversation this Saturday! Same time, same space, different speaker. Can’t wait.)

What is your lantern as we move into the season of darkness? Mine is gathering IRL to be with each other as we speak and engage with the unknown. I am deeply moved by the presence of those who took the journey and showed up. It’s inconvenient, it’s impractical, and it’s magical and rare. Hoping to have more of these mini-workshop spaces for connection and community. Nothing makes sense right now except this. 🕯️✨

Capturing the last few weeks as a family of four and obsessed is definitely an understatement 🥰

You hear it over and over again. “It goes by fast, make sure you enjoy every second.” Parenthood takes all your emotions to the limits- feelings like love, excitement, joy, but also stress, exhaustion, and frustration. While those feelings are a normal part of parenting, they are not always enjoyable. There will be days with your children that you may never want to end, and others when bedtime can’t come fast enough. And thousands of other moments scattered in between. Parenthood is hard and amazing and whichever feeling you’re having right now is okay.

In an increasingly digital world, we bring people together, because there is no substitute for sitting in a room every week with the same people going through what you are, too.

Be kind to each other. You never know how many times her baby got up last night, what tantrum just passed, or if the pregnancy test came back negative again. We are all in this together.

Motherhood: It is all-consuming and it is difficult as hell, but I am better for it, I’m more me because of it. To all the mamas, to the ones who mother, to those who pour endless love: know that you are loved 💗

Spring is here and life is busy! The past few weeks at The Family Room have been full of good things — we’ve had Parent & Me groups graduate, and the newest parents with the littlest babies start, we launched a new Wellness & Movement program, supported countless expecting families, and kicked off our Spring Toddler & Me and Music programs.

Activities at home are in full swing, too, from musicals and orchestra performances to dance, Senior activities for Audrey, and upcoming Spring Breaks.

I have been working here, there, and everywhere and am so thankful for the privilege to support families while still showing up for mine. Karen
