Fa Razavi’s latest work confronts the unappeasable, silent ache of that which time steals - Last words unsaid, reunions that never were, loves unfulfilled. She invites the viewer to join her in this intimate reflection on yearning and loss.

Razavi is an Iranian artist currently resident at London’s Hoxton Gallery. Her work addresses the intricate concepts of memory and displacement freedom and loss, while evoking a profound sense of belonging.

Semaan Khawam is a Syrian-born artist with Armenian ancestry who was born in 1974 in Damascus. When he was 14 years old, his family relocated to Beirut, Lebanon. In 1994, Khawam and his family received Lebanese citizenship. However, his life took a dramatic turn a year prior to obtaining citizenship.
At the age of 17, Khawam reached the legal age for military service and was drafted into the Syrian Army. Faced with the prospect of returning to Syria, he panicked and attempted to flee. Tragically, during his escape, he stepped on a land mine, resulting in the loss of one of his legs. Despite the physical setback, Khawam views this incident as a turning point that granted him freedom.
Following the life-altering event, Khawam, who is self-taught, discovered his passion for drawing. He began creating artwork, and shortly after, he started writing. Currently, the artist continues to reside in Beirut, although he occasionally finds himself challenged by the limitations of the city.
In 2012, Khawam encountered legal trouble when he sprayed a wall with a graffiti depicting an armed soldier, as a tribute to the Lebanese Civil War. This act led to a potential prison sentence or a substantial fine. Two years later, in 2014, Khawam was attacked by unidentified individuals on the street after they noticed his Syrian passport, revealing his country of birth. These incidents highlight the complex and conflicted nature of Beirut, which is grappling with numerous challenges, including an abundance of garbage and the echoes of past and present conflicts. @semaan_khawam_ [Exhibition runs daily at the gallery until July 30th] Available works @artsy link in bio by @hoxtongallery
