As a kid, running didn’t feel like it was made for someone like me.

I’ve been visually impaired since birth, and for a long time I felt awkward, out of place, and unsure if I even belonged in this sport.

But since rediscovering running recently, it’s now how I look after myself. It’s where I find calm, build confidence, and learn to trust my body when my mind wants to spiral.

I’m not here to be the fastest. I’m here to share what showing up actually looks like. Even when it sometimes feel uncomfortable.

That’s why Sound Mind, Sound Body means so much to me.

For me, being a FrontRunner won’t be about chasing times or big goals. It’s a way to stand proudly in a space I once felt pushed out of, and inspire others to do the same, so that they know they belong here too. Exactly as they are.

Welcome 👋

I’m Henry, a visually impaired runner sharing my journey with you.

I didn’t grow up feeling like I belonged in sport.
Running felt awkward, intimidating, and not built for someone like me.

But I’m learning that showing up consistently matters more than looking the part.

This account is about sharing the realities of running with a visual impairment and showing you that anyone can run, you don’t need to chase pace or perfection.

If you’ve ever felt out of place with running, you’re in the right place 🤍

Hi, I’m Henry 👋

I’m visually impaired, and I started running earlier this year as a way to support my mental health and prove to myself that I can do hard things despite having a disability.

Running has given me confidence I didn’t know I had, so I’m now aiming for my first marathon in 2026.

This account is the next step: sharing the journey openly with you, so others can feel like they belong here too.

As no matter who you are or the challenges you’ve faced, running is for all of us 🙌

It’s been a tough few weeks in my journey towards the Amsterdam Marathon 2026.

About a month ago, following my longest training run yet (21.1km) I started to notice some pain in my right big toe. For the past few weeks since then I’ve been resting and it has gotten a little better but eventually I had to face reality and went to get some advice from a professional.

After an MRI scan, it which revealed some soft tissue damage which was causing pain and restriction to the movement in my big toe I’ve had to make a really tough decision.

After weeks of not knowing what my start line looked like I’ve decided I won’t be there at all.

The risk of further injury is too high, so I’ve been recommended to make the decision to withdraw. This isn’t the outcome I wanted but in the end the decision was taken a little out of my hands after missing four weeks of training and the results of the scan.

Now my focus will be on building strength in the gym and maintaining aerobic fitness with indoor cycling and swimming.

It’s taught me a really valuable lesson to trust your gut and ALWAYS listen to your body.

I will come back stronger and determined to line up for my FIRST marathon - London Marathon next April running for @rnib and I cannot wait.

Thank you to everyone who’s followed my journey so far, I’m excited to share the rebuild with you on the Road To London 2027!

Running is for all of us.

Been quiet on here recently so thought I’d share an update on my training for the Amsterdam Marathon 2026 @tcsamsterdammarathon - just under 9 weeks to go and I’m feeling excited about running my first marathon on the 18th October. Zero pressure, simply aiming to cross that finish line!

Stay tuned over the next 9 weeks as I share more updates as we get closer to race day!

So excited to try @frive! AD

As a busy guy with a 9-5 and training towards my first marathon later this October, having quick, easy high protein meals is so important to keeping me fuelled and on track with my goals!

I’ll be sharing more about the meals I try so stay tuned!

While I didn’t end up running the Edinburgh Half Marathon back in May due to an injury, I am so grateful for everyone’s generosity and proud of the £335 raised for the @rnib to support people across the UK living with sight loss. The money raised goes toward supporting people to live more independently and enables the RNIB to continue their incredible work!

But as one door closes, another opens and I’m now on the Road to the Amsterdam Marathon in 12 weeks time on the 18th October. This will be my very first marathon so simply want to get to that start line and finish the race.

This is the start of my journey with the marathon, with my next one after Amsterdam already lined up - running London @londonmarathon in April fundraising for the RNIB!

I’ll be sharing training updates for the Amsterdam Marathon on my page and fundraising updates for London too! The link to donate for London will be in my bio! Thank you for any and all donations, every little helps!

I’ve already started training for @tcsamsterdammarathon so look out for highlights from the first 4 runs over the next few days!

Together I hope to show that anyone can run, even those who can’t see clearly and that running is for all of us.

Like so many people I received a ballot rejection yesterday for London Marathon 2027…

But then I found out I’ve been offered a place on Team @rnib to run on the Sunday! I’m so excited to be running for a cause so close to my heart as someone with a visual impairment. My aim is to show that anyone living with sight loss can do incredible things and you shouldn’t let a disability stand in your way!

Congratulations to everyone else who’s got a place for either Saturday or Sunday!

I’ve held off posting this as I was honestly really disappointed when I realised I wasn’t able to run the Edinburgh Half Marathon on 24th May.

A few days before the race I had my last run and after that I had a sore right ankle and didn’t want to risk a worse injury by running on it so chose to pull out of the race.

I had been really looking forward to it, but in hindsight I know I made the right decision to allow me to carry on running the rest of this year.

I am especially proud to have raised £335 for @rnib which goes directly towards supporting people who are blind and living with sight loss

Thank you to everyone who donated, I will continue to fundraise for RNIB, raising awareness of the challenges of living with sight loss and how you can support those people living with sight loss through your donations.

Follow for more as I work towards my first marathon later this year… watch this space!
