As we have said before, LT crank sprockets need to be modified for aftermarket cranks, it should also be noted they are not intended for LS cranks for a number of reasons by @hpresearch

Another road race project underway with only the best! Lightweight HPR custom pistons by @wisecopistoninc that carry a set of 0.9/0.9/2.0mm gas ported @total.seal rings! These are going to be handled by a full counter weight @callies_performance crank and rods supported with light dual taper tool steel wrist pins.

It’s not often that we get to see the finished project when we just do engines but sometimes you get to have something special swing by. This week we got to see in person the 2009 “Red Dragon” Gainsco Daytona Prototype built by Riley Technologies.

Few more touches and they should have it ready to make rounds on the vintage circuit so keep your eyes open to see it on track again!!

Titanium. This is a material that has become quite common within the OE manufacturers when it comes to high performance applications. Once just for aerospace and race cars, this can aid performance in a number of ways.

That said special care must be used when dealing and handling it. When it comes to oe valves they are almost always covered with a protective coating as they will be mating to a dissimilar materials. Take the LS7 valve, these are made by Del West and have a protective coating of CrN to keep them happy with the powered metal guides and seats. Once the valves are sized and cut and the CrN applied they can no longer be machined without being recoated.

Take these valves here, stems are perfect but the valve seat angle is completely destroyed because someone ground the valve and didn’t know. Now $1000 worth of valves are gone.

There are special cases however. Copper, Beryllium Copper and some other special seats can and will work fine with a uncoated valve but it is rare to see that in a stock cylinder head.
