$The Real Cost of a “Quick” HR Question 🤔 Every HR question feels quick when you're asking it. It rarely stays that way once you dig in. That's not a bad thing it's actually the whole point! A good HR answer isn't a guess or a gut reaction. It's shaped by employment law, workplace precedent, and a clear-eyed read of what could go wrong if it isn't handled well. So when you bring a question to someone who's been doing this work for years (like myself), here's what you're actually getting: ✅ A second opinion that catches the risk before it becomes a problem. ✅ A read on your specific situation; not a generic answer pulled from a search bar. ✅ Someone who's seen how small decisions, a missed document, a rushed hire, an unclear conversation that’s not documented can turn into much bigger problems than you originally thought. Don’t you want someone who has the confidence that your next step is the right one, not just the fastest one? You're not meant to have all the answers. That's what a fractional HR Consultant and partner is for. I am here for you so you don't walk through the people issues alone. So next time you catch yourself thinking “this is probably a quick question” ask it anyway. The answer might take three minutes to explain. The experience behind it took years to build! https://hrnextdoor.ca/ #HRConsultant #HRExpert #Businessonwers #FractionalHR #HRcoach by @hr_next_door$

After 20+ years in HR, I decided it was time to build something of my own—something that gives me more freedom for my family, while continuing to do the work I love.

I support start-ups and small to mid-sized businesses. I provide straightforward, no-nonsense HR solutions that actually work in real life, not just on paper.

I’m known for being hands-on, approachable, and a true partner to the businesses I work with. Whether it’s hiring, employee relations, compliance, or building structure from the ground up—I’m there to make things easier, not more complicated.

I strongly believe in the value of the human experience in the workplace—connection, trust, and leadership matter more than ever. At the same time, I’ve embraced AI and modern apps to work smarter, not harder. These tools have helped me both personally and professionally, and I love showing businesses how to use them to streamline HR, save time, and stay competitive.

If you’re growing and/or need HR support I can be your very own HR Consultant. Ask me anything and I will demonstrate the value I can bring to your business. You will not regret buying back your time if you work with me.

Please give me a follow @hrnextdoor032826.

Thank you!

Is Remembrance Day a stat holiday in BC? Yes. This year it’s Wednesday, November 11.

Employees who qualify get an average day’s pay, whether they work that day or take it off. And Boxing Day, by the way, is not a BC stat.

Not sure who qualifies on your team? Book a free 30-minute call. Link in bio.

Don’t cancel the year-end party. It’s the wrong cut.

When budgets tighten, the celebration looks like an easy saving. It’s a rounding error next to payroll. Replacing one employee commonly costs somewhere between half and two times their salary.

The budget won’t notice the sandwiches. Your team will notice they’re gone.

What people remember is the recognition anyway: a specific thank-you, a handwritten note, a small award. That part is nearly free.

Scaled down is fine. A catered lunch, a potluck, a short afternoon gathering, or a hybrid event so remote employees are included.

December venues book fast, so settle the budget, date and format now. Or hand it over: I plan it, I host and MC it, and you relax. Limited December availability. DM me, or read the full post at the link in bio.

BC pay transparency reports are due November 1. Quick question for BC business owners: did you have 50 or more employees in BC on January 1, 2026?

If you did, the Pay Transparency Act asks you to publish a pay transparency report by November 1, 2026. That’s this Sunday.

The report goes on your website, or somewhere your team can clearly see it if you don’t have one. It counts everyone working in BC, on-site or remote.

Most owners at this size don’t have an HR department, so this lands on someone already doing three jobs. If that’s you, I’m happy to walk through what your report needs on a free 30-minute call. Link in bio.

Under 50 today? Save this post: the day you reach 50 employees, it applies to you too.

Team day done right with a few of the Facilitators @fountainheadnetwork 🎃🍂

We swapped the boardroom for a pumpkin patch, grabbed lunch at The Patch Brewery, and yes, paper bags were involved. 😄 Between the laughs, we made time for internal training too, because learning together is better when you’re also having fun.

Here’s what I love about this: when you surround yourself with like-minded people, the work gets better and so does the day. Growth, trust, and good conversation happen when we make space for them.

So grateful to collaborate with people who bring their whole selves, big smiles and paper bag faces included.

Your team doesn’t need a big budget to build connection. It just needs intention.
