In a recent interview with The American Journal of Managed Care, Dr. John Norian discussed what the broader understanding of PMOS could mean for patients — including the connection between insulin resistance, ovulation, fertility, and long-term health.

Dr. Norian also shared his perspective on the future of PMOS care, including how advances in big data and artificial intelligence could eventually help identify different PMOS subtypes and lead to more personalized treatment approaches.

As the terminology evolves, one thing remains important: PMOS is more than a fertility condition. Understanding the broader health impacts can help patients and providers approach care more comprehensively.

When someone you love is going through infertility, it can be hard to know what to say or do.

You don’t need to have the perfect words or a solution. Sometimes, the most meaningful support is simply reminding them that they’re not alone, validating what they’re feeling, and letting them know you’re there. 🤍

Infertility can be mentally, physically, and emotionally challenging. A little understanding can go a long way.

Save this post as a reminder of how you can support someone through their fertility journey.

Why do comments like ‘just relax’ or ‘it will happen when the time is right’ cause pain to people dealing with infertility?

Infertility is a medical condition, not a failure of mindset or effort. “Just relax” tells the person the blame is on them and that they are causing the infertility. However, research has not shown that simply reducing stress improves natural fertility or improves the success of fertility treatment. Similarly, “it will happen when the time is right” can feel dismissive because it minimizes the uncertainty, grief, and medical realities people are facing.

Many patients are doing everything they can—undergoing testing, taking medications, attending appointments, and making significant emotional and financial sacrifices. What they often need most is acknowledgment of how hard the journey is, not reassurance that everything will work out. The reality is that even with all the advancements in technology and complete commitment to a complex and extremely taxing process of fertility treatments, there is still no guarantee of pregnancy.

So what can you say?

Instead of trying to fix the situation, try:

“I know you’re going through a lot. I’m here for you.”
“You don’t have to go through this alone.”
“I’m here to listen if you want to talk.”

You don’t need to have the perfect words. Sometimes, acknowledging someone’s experience is more comforting than trying to make it disappear. by @hrcfertilitypasadena
