HRMAB extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for the People Development Conference 26, held on 14–15 October at the Hilton Barbados Resort under the theme “Workforce 2030: Ready or Not”.

Your presence, thoughtful questions and shared experiences helped make these two days meaningful. Every contribution added to the conversation about how we prepare our people, strengthen our organisations and respond to the changing world of work.

To those who attended with colleagues, reconnected with familiar faces or made new professional connections, thank you for being part of this community. We hope you left with fresh perspectives, practical ideas and renewed motivation to make a positive difference in your workplace.

🔥Over the past 2 days, I had the distinct privilege and honor of attending and also being a panelist at the Human Resource Management Association of Barbados People Development Conference hosted by @hrmab246 & @tishapeters under the theme Workforce 2030 Ready or Not.

Two of my biggest takeaways having attended the conference were as follows:

1. With AI, what differentiates you is no longer just having all the right answers. Rather, it is your empathy, presence, opinions and creativity that matters most now.

2. Secondly, the growth and development of your people is your number one responsibility, because people are the ones behind the processes.

I will certainly continue to take some time to reflect on all the golden nuggets that were shared.

During my panel discussion on Leading During Times of Uncertainty: AI, Gen Z and Organisational Change, I shared that the success and sustainability of organisations today is dependent upon leader's ability to embrace and incorporate each new upcoming generation. I also shared that when a generation's expectations are different from what an organisation has traditionally been accustomed to, it can sometimes be wrongly interpretted as being "difficult". However we must differentiate between being "different" and being "difficult"

The only way that innovation can truly occur is if we have persons who are courageous enough to ask the tough questions.

Mental health is not a perk. It’s part of how work works.

As HR professionals, we’re often the first people employees turn to when life gets heavy, and the last to ask for help ourselves. This year’s World Mental Health Day theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change,” reminds us that good people practice starts with listening. That means listening to employees, managers and our own colleagues in the profession.

Today, HRMAB encourages every organisation in Barbados to ask:
✔️ Do our people feel safe speaking up about how they’re doing?
✔️ Do our managers know how to respond when they do?
✔️ Are our policies built with real experiences in mind, or just on paper?

Six personal steps to a successful conference! 🎯

Getting the most from Workforce 2030 starts with a little preparation. Come ready to ask questions, share experiences and leave with ideas you can put into practice.

✅ Confirm your registration.
📅 Block your days and give yourself time to be fully present.
📖 Review the agenda and identify your priority sessions.
💬 Prepare at least 3 questions about the challenges that matter to you.
🤝 Engage with your colleagues and make new connections.
💡 Put the knowledge you gain into action.
