A gathering place for multiple generations.

The Texarkana Ranch Residence is a modern family compound set within a 51-acre ranch property in East Texas. Designed by MHOA as both architect and interior designer, the project was conceived as a collection of buildings that support a highly communal way of life while remaining comfortable and appropriately scaled for everyday family living.

Large expanses of glass, deep roof overhangs, and thoughtfully oriented living spaces maximize natural daylight while carefully responding to seasonal solar conditions. Interior spaces were intentionally positioned to support daily routines, including an east-facing primary bath designed to capture morning light and a guest house oriented toward afternoon and evening activity.

Through passive environmental strategies, durable regional materials, and thoughtfully programmed buildings, the residence creates a welcoming and enduring setting for family life.

Cover girl. Shop owner. MHOA procurement manager. Arielle Shaves is a woman of many talents — and @austin_home magazine agrees, naming her a 2026 Rising Star in Austin Design.

Arielle's route into design began in hospitality, where she worked nearly every position in a restaurant before moving into styling and set design. When the pandemic prompted a shift, she pursued formal interior design training and joined our procurement team, bringing with her a discerning read on atmosphere, function, and how people move through a space.

That sensibility extends beyond the studio. With a friend, Arielle co-founded Maybe A Pop-Up Shop, a community art studio and storefront hosting workshops and programming for fellow artists.

Congratulations, Arielle, on a distinction well earned. We are so very proud of you.

“Every single detail, as small as it is, is as important as the biggest one." says Paltrow in @archdigest.

Every material, fixture, and detail was held to a single standard — does it support the guest? At the first-ever sit-down goop kitchen in Del Mar, California the food and hospitality are the main characters. What remains is a design vocabulary that is natural and precise. Well-made things chosen with care.

Designed to feel elevated yet welcoming, the interior is anchored by a dramatically veined marble feature wall and layered with warm, natural details including walnut millwork, classic black-and-white tile, sculptural pendant lighting, and soft greenery. Large steel-framed windows flood the dining room with California light and frame views of the surrounding mature landscaping, while striped upholstered banquettes keep the energy fresh and inviting. With both indoor and outdoor seating, the space captures the sun-soaked essence of San Diego.

The guiding concept was a hug.

That simple, human gesture became the organizing principle — an architecture of warmth, openness, and unconditional welcome. The design communicates that this is a place where everyone belongs and where every person is seen as capable of realizing their full potential.

The ground level is arranged to be as generous and flexible as possible. Open, light-filled common areas flow between cozy seating alcoves, a lecture space, and a kitchen — settings that accommodate both casual gathering and more intentional programming. A private family meeting room offers the discretion some conversations require. Also on this level is the Love Box room, home to Austin Angels' most impactful initiative: a supply program that connects foster families with the resources they need most.

Design for All is not about doing less – it is about doing more with intention — and Austin Angels' new home is proof of that.

Take a closer look inside Michael Hsu’s garage from our latest episode of Huckberry Homes.

Alongside a bike collection and a great workspace sit two standouts: a 1997 Porsche 993 and a 1969 Mercedes 280SE.

The 911 is the last of the air-cooled models, built back when these cars were still assembled largely by hand. And the Mercedes earned the nickname “Opera Coupe” because it looked like something you’d drive to a night out.

If you haven’t watched the episode yet, head to the link in our bio to catch up. It’s a good one. taken in Austin, Texas by @hsuoffice

We didn’t have to go far for our latest episode of Huckberry Homes.

We visited the home of Michael Hsu—Austin-based architect, designer, and founder of @hsuoffice. You’ve seen his work all over the city, from @uchirestaurants and @loroeats to our own Huckberry stores. But at home, his point of view feels even more personal.

We stopped by to see how it all comes together—from the materials and layout to his take on living fully on a compact city lot. And if you’re into cars, you’ll want to stick around for a look inside the garage.

We're proud to announce our 2026 Design for All partnership with @fostervillageaustin, a Central Texas nonprofit serving 14,000+ children and caregivers in the foster care system.

Together, we share the belief that thoughtfully designed spaces have the power to promote healing and belonging. This is the lens under which we'll transform an existing A-frame structure on their 5-acre Austin property into a trauma-informed healing and creative arts space for children.

We can't wait to get to work. taken in Foster Village by @hsuoffice

One last salute before take off. 🛸

No sign needed. No explanation required. A burger stand that looked like it was about to blast off — because it was.

#11 — the P. Terry’s Capital Plaza flagship — closes June 28 to make way for the I-35 expansion.

Ten years, 24 hours a day, one very photogenic roofline. Designed by MHOA. Built to honor the visionaries behind the business. And loved by us all.

The Headliners Club // Austin, TX

Located on the 21st floor, the renewed @headlinersclubatx reimagines a storied private institution for a new generation. The 7,505‑square‑foot interior renovation layers a modern Texas palette of oak and burl wood, limestone, textured plaster, and refined detailing to create warm, contemporary spaces that honor the club’s journalistic legacy and civic roots.

A redefined arrival sequence foregrounds member history through custom millwork and crafted elements, while the iconic Press Box—lined with framed historic headlines and past presidents’ mugs—balances intimacy with tradition. Alongside the interiors, a full brand refresh aligns the physical environment with the club’s evolving identity, resulting in a craft‑forward expression of legacy and Austin’s next chapter.

Uchiko // Denver, CO

Uchiko Denver reimagines a former Cherry Creek art gallery as a warm, craft‑driven restaurant shaped by its neighborhood context and the character of the existing building. Opened in February, this location is distinct from other locations in the @uchikorestaurants family; the design begins with the site’s intimate scale, gallery history, and domestic origins, developing in direct conversation with those conditions to create an adaptive reuse that feels unmistakably Uchiko while remaining deeply connected to place.

Honoring the legacy of gallery founder Ginny Williams, the project introduces new opportunities for local art display, transforming what was once a by‑appointment space into an open, neighborhood‑serving gathering place.

The restaurant centers around a new sunroom that acts as the social heart, with the dining room, bar, and sushi bar oriented to foreground craft and preparation. Materials drawn from both Colorado and the Uchiko ethos—rough‑sawn walnut, Douglas fir, white oak, yakisugi, stone, and leather—celebrate handwork, material junctions, and the building’s enduring creative spirit.
