Thanks to @peconicbayvineyards for generously donating a portion of sales, and to @tastywaveli for providing the awesome tunes! 🎶

We sang, we danced, we laughed, AND we raised money for the animals who need us most! 💚

LET’S MAKE HISTORY FOR HORSES. 💚

After 19 years of fighting for this day, we’re asking you to join us as @nyccouncil led by @speakermenin finally votes to BAN deadly horse carriages!

On Thursday, October 22, the City Council will PASS Romanch’s Law.! To everyone who has stood with us through this long, difficult fight: we cannot wait to share this moment with you!

🐴 12 PM: Rally at the City Hall Park fountain (between Broadway and Park Pl) with Speaker Julie Menin, our supportive Council members and our amazing coalition of advocates and New Yorkers.

🐴 1:30 PM: The full Council meeting begins at City Hall, where Romanch’s Law will be voted on and passed!

We have fought so hard for the day when these horses can run free at sanctuaries and no other family has to endure the grief Romanch’s family lives with. On Thursday, we take that historic step together.

📍Seating inside City Hall is very limited. We’re planning a nearby watch party where everyone who cannot get inside can gather to watch the vote via the Council’s livestream. Details to come.

Please be there. You helped make this possible. 💚 taken in City Hall Park by @humaneli

𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐘𝐎𝐑𝐊'𝐒 𝐂𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐍 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐋𝐀𝐖: 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐌𝐀𝐋 𝐀𝐁𝐔𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐒?

New York's Clean Slate Act allows eligible criminal convictions to be automatically sealed after three years for misdemeanors and eight years for felonies, provided certain conditions are met.

While the law is intended to help people rebuild their lives, it raises an important animal protection concern: 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐬.

That could make it harder for animal shelters, rescue organizations, and other animal care providers to identify applicants with histories of animal abuse.

The law already makes exceptions for certain serious crimes and allows access to sealed records for specific purposes. 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧?

𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍: Contact @govkathyhochul and ask her to support an amendment to the Clean Slate Act that would allow animal shelters, rescue organizations, and animal care employers to access otherwise sealed animal cruelty convictions when screening people who would have animals in their care.

𝐀𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐬. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦.

🐴❤️ Standing beside Speaker Julie Menin yesterday and our supporters at City Hall, my heart was overflowing with gratitude. After 19 years of NYCLASS working to end cruel and deadly horse carriages, history will be made next Thursday when the Council passes Romanch’s Law!

Thank you @julmenin for your courageous leadership and for doing what no one before you could. Thank you to bill sponsor @chrismartenyc, the Animal Welfare Caucus, @nycmayor and every activist who stood with us through this incredibly long and hard fight.

🎉This is a victory for horses, for activism, and for the animal rights movement that will reverberate around the world!

I take so much solace in knowing Romanch’s name and legacy will live on through a law protecting people and horses and preventing further tragedies. Romanch’s family has told me that knowing their son’s legacy will spare others the heartbreak they have endured and will free the horses brings them a measure of comfort amid their unimaginable grief. taken in New York City Hall by @humaneli

🐴 Years of advocacy. A historic vote. A future free from horse-drawn carriages.

Join Humane Long Island and our friends at @nyclass on October 22 as the New York City Council votes on legislation to end horse-drawn carriages!

This fight is deeply personal for HLI President John Di Leonardo. As the campaign’s first Queens Captain and driver of the original horseless e-carriage, John has championed this change since before Humane Long Island was founded.

Thank you, @speakermenin, for helping bring this long-awaited legislation to a vote. Let’s get it across the finish line—for the horses! ❤️ taken in New York City by @humaneli

For my 40th birthday this year, I’m asking for donations for @humaneli who was instrumental in helping me with my case after Jack & Jameson were killed by arson. They advocated for me, came to the courthouse with me, contacted the news and politicians and have had my back since I contacted them when I felt completely hopeless. I now get to volunteer with them and have seen firsthand aside from my case how their work impacts not only animals, but people and our communities here on Long Island. Please donate anything you can, if you can. Together we can help build a more humane Long Island ❤️

A HUGE thank you to @secretvegankitchen for letting us take over your walls! We’re so grateful for the opportunity to fill your space with the amazing artwork from our community. Your support means the world to us 💚💚💚

The opening reception was SO much fun! 🥹 It was incredible seeing everyone come out, connect, admire the artwork, and celebrate all the creativity that went into this show. Thank you to everyone who came and helped make the night so special!
The display will be up all month long, so there’s still plenty of time to come see it!

Go check out the art, grab some delicious food, and support this amazing small business! 🌱🎨

Ps. If you’d like to submit artwork and be added to the display, you still can! We’ll be adding more pieces to the walls over the upcoming weeks as artists submit their work. by @humaneli
