Sample Pilates Reformer programming if you’re a tennis player or training one 🫶

LMK if you want to see our Cadillac session?

I break everythinggggg down in each slide, and the last slides has the whole plan plus spring tension I tend to use with Aiden. This is just a *sample class, and a of course, your training program has to be specific and tailored to the athlete that you’re working with.

10 Reformer Group Class themes that are fun to plan plus they educate your students.

🔖Save this list next time you’re looking for some inspo.

Building a class around a theme can help you think outside the box when building your session and help you choose movements based on their function or how they can educate the student. It can especially help reduce any anxiety you have when the teaching a multi-level group class or feeling like you’re in a creative rut.

Building a class around a theme can also help students feel a natural progression toward *something* and helps them learn about a fundamental concept you’re trying to teach them, no matter where they are in their practice.

Hope this is helpful 🤍 by @humanimoves

‼️Comment “info” to get the invite for my upcoming Core Mechanics and Cueing Masterclass when reg opens ❤️

I will go into this IN DETAIL at the workshop, but I’ll say this — the “corset” metaphor can be effective in certain cases, but constantly emphasizing the corset can place a disproportionate amount of emphasis on “sucking in” or pre-contracting before every movement. Which is just not always necessary.

What is effective is to understand the big picture — the core is a complex system that manages load, and@in Pilates, is either working at the forefront or in the background and needs to be dynamic.

Your core doesn’t need to be maximally stiff or be the key stabilizer all the time. It needs to be able to adapt and move, and the amount of stiffness or tension needs to change based on the movement, the load, and task.

Can’t wait to get into all the deets. The masterclass sign-ups are opening soon 💌 Comment “info” to be first on the list and get your early-bird ticket and discount ✔️ by @humanimoves

Hang out while I teach one of my favorite bottom loaded exercises — especially great at challenging the glute max and the posterior chain in general.

Plus Christina asks a Bridge-related question at the end that I get SO much from both students and teachers 👀

Without focus and reprogramming, you’ll naturally move from the areas of your body that you already rely on in your day-to-day life. For many people, that hinge point is their low back—not their glutes.

Is it time for another virtual teacher only class? LMK if you’re into it. by @humanimoves

Routinely teach this in my advanced Chair class, let me know if you try it 🤍

Execution tip: make sure that you’re keeping the turn out within your active external rotation range (distance approx shoulder-width), even if you have greater abduction range. We want to feel the mobilization of the hip flexors and the extension coming from the glute max.

So rather than diving right into Grasshopper or Swan off the seat, I LOVE doing this primer as a series. You can do it completely as a stand alone, never even going into grasshopper, or you can use it as a builder for it.

Hope you love it! by @humanimoves

One of the most fundamental aspects of directing pressure during core work is to have as much usable space as possible.

Primers like this create more softness and mobilize the ribcage, which helps people who have a hard time with pressure management.

We will cover this in my core masterclass in Oct, but mobilizing the ribcage is such a key part of creating a responsive, adaptable core.

When tension stays around the mid trunk, the ribs can become less mobile and get sort of “stuck” in a position. This can change how we distribute pressure through the trunk affecting alignment, how freely the spine, pelvis and neck are able to move, and core mechanics.

When we create more expansion through the back of the ribcage, we give the body more space to manage pressure instead of by pulling in, lifting and tensing more.

Love mobility work over a ball like this to softly release the tension and create expansion.

It’s one of those things that can completely change how core work feels. by @humanimoves

Trust me that you have to try it (with a lighter band first) 🤍

At point, I’ve been playing with this series for a while, and I’m definitely filing the first part under more of a neuromuscular warm-up to help people who have a hard time with thoracic rotation (works super well btw!!!) while the second part is truly a challenge.

This band is on the heavier side, and the heavier you go, the more tension the student will have to overcome toward the end of the vid. This makes it such an amazing combo. by @humanimoves

My class in 10 seconds. This was honestly a really fun one.

We started with Footwork, Feet in Straps and Supine Arms and then we took it to a whole other level. With the help of one of my favorite props and a jumpboard, we truly had so much fun. Ended with a hip and Elephant series into Pile to Plank.

If you want to see the slowed done version of it with my notes, happy to share, just LMK 🤍 by @humanimoves

What I Teach in a Day Chair Class 🔥

Ok broke the entire thing down into steps and transitions for you.

Rotational work is a HUGE part of class because I personally love adding dynamic rotation and anti-rotation movement to all my classes.

First, we wake up the back and front of the body with the hamstring curls in supine, then add the spinal flexion to mobilize the mid-back while bringing the core into the work.

This class does not have to be done on a split pedal btw, I’m just choosing that version for a little more single side focus.

Then we start layering progressions in quadruped with all of those connections already turned on. From there, we progress into a full-body challenge and eventually add the side bend, which starts to set us up for the next progression: Kneeling Mermaid into Plank before doing Pikes.

I love when a series feels like it builds on itself. Each piece prepares you for what comes next.

Save and try this week 🫶🏼 by @humanimoves

A close-up of one of my favorite ways to teach a movement similar to Side Seated or Side Kneeling Pull Across.

✔️I love this box orientation because it brings you closer to the actual line of pull — where the strap is coming from. And that changes everything.

When you’re more in line with the tension, the posterior deltoids can actually do their job. Instead of the front or side delts taking over (which we work a lot in low and high kneeling), you get cleaner, more targeted shoulder extension — without having to pull from low to high.

I find that it also helps the trunk stay organized and stable during the movement, which can be a challenge in a kneeling or seated position.

If you’ve ever felt discouraged about your career as a teacher or how you’re supposed to teach by “by now” this is for you 🫶

Let’s talk about “YOUR CALLING”. imo there is no time limit on finding your calling and your calling doesn’t always feel like the easiest path at first.

i’m happy to say that over the last decade I finally feel like I know what I am meant to do with my life but it didn’t necessarily come natural at first although it DID feel in alignment. it took me some serious time to develop the skills and confidence to trust who I am and what I’m meant to do.

Believe you will succeed
Believe that it will workout
Believe that the reason you started is valid
Believe that even that the challenging part is going to lead to your biggest lessons

If you’ve ever felt discouraged about not being good enough at something you love yet, or that you’re not succeeding as a teacher or studio owner at the moment, you’re just discovering where this path is going. and honestly it might be going somewhere you did not expect at all.
