Today was a very special one at Hunted Projects. We were honoured to welcome the extraordinary Shirley Manson to the gallery to view Robert Montgomery’s newly opened solo exhibition, The Edinburgh Saints.

Shirley, the voice of @garbage and one of Scotland’s most iconic artists, also features in Robert Montgomery’s painting The Edinburgh Saints, the work that shares its title with the exhibition.

Thank you so much for visiting, Shirley & Billy! 🤍

The Edinburgh Saints is on now at Hunted Projects, 8/4 Murieston Lane, Edinburgh. Come and see it for yourself.
.
The exhibition is open for viewing by appointment. Please email info@huntedprojects.com or DM to arrange a time to visit the exhibition.

OPENING TODAY
PV - 6-8pm
Artist Talk & Poetry Reading at 7pm
.
Hunted Projects is delighted to announce The Edinburgh Saints, a new solo exhibition by Robert Montgomery, taking its name from the exhibition’s central painting, also titled Edinburgh Saints, born from a memory of reading poetry on a pirate radio station on Calton Hill in 1992.

The central painting Edinburgh Saints gathers Montgomery’s so called “underground saints” of 1990s Edinburgh: Andrew Brown, Justin Fashanu, Paul Reekie, Shirley Manson, Andy Anderson and Jason Herzmark, the people who shaped a bohemian Edinburgh of late nights, painting and poetry.

Alongside it, three further text works, paintings and an iconic light work by Montgomery will be presented, built from his own poetry in his instantly recognisable bold capitalised script. Together they continue a practice that has taken his words from billboards and burning letters to gallery walls around the world, each work offering the same quiet pause his work is known for: a line of verse asking to be read slowly, against a culture built for scrolling fast.

Edinburgh Saints is on view at Hunted Projects, 8/4 Murieston Lane, Edinburgh, from 2 October to 6 November 2026. The private view takes place on Friday 2 October, 6 to 8pm. Opening hours are by appointment only, Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm. Please make an appointment through the gallery website.

It is with pleasure that Hunted Projects announces a site specific wall work by Montgomery on the exterior of the gallery, a first for Hunted Projects. Internationally known for his large scale outdoor poems, from illuminated light works to billboard poems in cities from London to Berlin to Paris, Montgomery brings that same spirit to the gallery’s exterior wall for Edinburgh Saints: “whenever you see the sun reflected in the window of a building it is an angel.”

In conversation with Elaine Speirs 👀

Hunted Projects is delighted to present this interview conducted between Edinburgh based artist Elaine Speirs and Steven Cox. The conversation took place in anticipation of Speirs’s solo exhibition, Black Pearl, at Hunted Projects, Edinburgh, running 31 July to 13 September 2026. The exhibition brings together a new body of paintings centred on the flower, not as decorative subject, but as a vessel for exploring presence, emotion, and the human condition. At its heart is the exhibition’s title work, Black Pearl, the largest and most ambitious canvas Speirs has produced to date.

This interview moves through that process, from the improvisational first marks that begin a painting, to the instinct behind her colour, to the scale and meaning of Black Pearl itself, and the smaller, quieter works that sit alongside it. It also touches on Speirs’s long friendship with fellow artist Robert Montgomery, whose accompanying essay for the exhibition, Writing Ophelia’s Hands, offers his own reading of the calligraphic line that runs through her work.

Full interview available via the link in bio.
Black Pearl runs until 13 September 2026
