INVITED: Last night I attended a beautiful evening as a guest of @gertrudeandalice to hear the wonderful @michaelakalowski interview the fabulous @hollygoeslightly Holly is kicking off the book tour for her fourth book / third novel The World Beneath Her Feet. Holly is an incredible story writer, but her story telling is a superb. Just a beautiful evening, in my own company, so prior I had dinner at one of my favorite restaurants and enjoyed my lasted non-fiction read and some people watching. The team @gertrudeandalice really do put on the most incredible events and so make sure to follow their Insta & Humantix page to not miss out as the rest of 2026 is packed with so much goodness. Now off to meet Maggie Bird, and the latest spectacular world Holly has created. As per usual hats off to @michaelakalowski a one of a kind host xx by @hvoreads

The Stranger At The Table by @cassiehamerwriter Cassie hosted an event for @katie_hoskins_author a couple of months back and I decided to buy her book from the booksellers on site. The Stranger At The Table is about Christmas Day at the home of Maz Antonio who is trying to create the most perfect Christmas for her family after spending 2 years in jail. Set in Australian suburbia, this story follows Maz’s life in a series of present day and flashbacks which piece together the story of how she ended up in prison. I loved the first third and was so captivated the book that it went everywhere with me, then at about 75% I thought I had figured out what would happen and the book took a whole turn on me. Favorite character is the elderly neighbor next door and I can not believe this book wasn’t on my radar! Perfect Sunday read: emotional family drama, redemption, suspenseful, and unexpected twists. Have dropped it off at Neutral Bay Salvos to send it back into the reading community! I hope it is adored by the next reader x by @hvoreads

Redbelly Crossing by @candicefoxauthor is SO good! I picked this up because @sallyhepworth mentioned it on her account. I actually first saw & heard about Candice’s work @nbrfestival years ago when she sat with @michaelrobotham on a panel but I never got around to reading any of her work as there was always an upcoming book club book to read, a gifted book to enjoy or a hosting book to prepare. Well, what an absolute delight to have Sally remind and convince me to try this book. I absolutely adored this Aussie crime, based in Redbelly Crossing. At a pub a young woman is found dead, it comes down to 2 cops (brothers) to find out what the ‘ell happened. Full of family drama, Aussie regional town rumors, and the relations we hold with those we are closest to. It was such a great crime book (not too gruesome!) and now I am keen to read more or Candice’s work. This one was shared straight on to a fellow reader and I can’t wait to hear from those who have read it and what they thought!? What should I read next by @candicefoxauthor ? by @hvoreads

Event: Playing catch ups with my passion project. Two weeks ago I was a guest at a beautiful book event @gertrudeandalice for @laurenkeeganwriter and her recent novel The Woman In The Seal Skin. I attended together with my sister for a traditional book club, this time hosted by the most divine @kellydoustbooks & the incomparable @janeellenturner before we were surprised with the wonderful Lauren! A surprise for all in the audience and what a special evening we had discussing her multiple manuscripts, finding Kelly, becoming published and her wonderful way of including folklore and fairy tales into novels. I could have listened to Lauren & Kelly all evening. If you love fantasy, folklore, fiction meets non fiction and anything ocean this book is for you. At the end of the evening Jane spoke so wonderfully about @gertrudeandalice being in business for 25 years this year, and reminded us that supporting independent bookstores means everything to those business owners. So in Jane’s words… chose balance, try and support the small indie stores, even if it’s just a card or coffee and engage with your local independent bookstores. They really are magical places, as magical as the world @laurenkeeganwriter creates. by @hvoreads

PR Gift: Wow, the beautiful @thehappinesspathway found my little passion Instagram account and wanted to send me a gifted book. I was blown away when I received a full PR package! A handwritten note, an affirmation card, a bookmark and a pen in addition to her beautiful book The Happiness Pathway which is set up as informative with the opportunity to also be interactive with spaces to actively write and action her guidance for your own journey. As a girl who works in PR I have sent over a thousand mailers but I have never, ever received one and I am so grateful and so excited to get stuck into this book. by @hvoreads

Event: @dervlamctiernan in conversation with @michaelakalowski brought to @bondipavilionofficial by @waverleycouncil and the second to none team from @gertrudeandalice This was a brilliant evening. One of the best hosts in the business and a very funny, very humble, very bright (and very successful) author. It was an absolute treat to be invited and I greatly appreciated the way Michaela formulated questions and created such a fascinating and engaging chat. The pair spoke about Dervla’s latest novel Three Reasons For Revenge and how AI is infiltrating our lives making us unable to see and hear what we are seeing at time. I could of listened to these two chat all night. Very excited to read Dervla’s latest work. @harpercollinsaustralia by @hvoreads

Read Review Repeat is back! And we are back in the car as it was best for audio till invest in some tech. Read: I have long awaited this story of @chloe.fisher and her fertility journey written with @alleypascoe who also wrote @ellidy_ very special book and I am excited to read this journey as I know it ends well. Review these ridiculous sunnies… a $2.99 find at @hm and I think an impulse buy for my morning power walks. Will they make me faster? Repeat: this sensational @_aje_ long trench jacket so I can get the cost per wear down as it was a massive spurge. Thanks for being here and yes undid the seat belt this time 😂 I think filming in my little car works! What is everyone else putting on repeat this week? 🧥 📚 👓 by @hvoreads

Strangers by @belleburden was read by some many people I adore but @annabelellis of @shopdailydiamonds made me read it sooner rather than later. Purchased on my Kindle as it was Easter Sunday and read it in two sittings on one day. What a crazy story. This book explores the (very sudden) end of a nearly 20 year marriage and the next 24 months in which Belle recovers or tries to recover from becoming strangers to the love of her life and father of their 3 children. I loved the intel into Belle’s family, she’s an heiress and her grandmother is legendary NYC socialite Babe Paley. I found it devastating and scary how your best friend, lover, husband can turn into a stranger in one moment… I thought it was so brave of Belle to be so open and I can see the online success and admiration for her work (Oprah has given it her nod now too) But wow…. I would not wish this experience on my worst enemy. Strangers was rattling! Do not read if engaged 😂 But fascinating! by @hvoreads

When The Party’s Over by @katie_hoskins_author As Natalie celebrates her birthday she wants to forget her obligations as a working mum of three and all the hardships that come with evolving from a young woman in a relationship to a wife, mother and part-time career woman. Everyone is invited to the childfree party: her best friends, her work friends and her family members. The night goes to plan and but by the time her kids return, one of them ingests leftover drugs… That storyline comes with everything you suspect… stress, shame, bad publicity and strains on all relationships. Separately we get a look at Nat’s besties lives whose story lines are as gripping as her own till everything escalates and comes to a head in a fabulous grande finale! Katie is participating in a couple of author events and I can not wait to meet her coming Friday and ask some questions. Katie is part of the Australian debut authors of 2026 and I was delighted to see (I suspect) fellow debut author @joshhortinelawriter call out this book @dymockssydney in the staff picks. The combination of @joshhortinelawriter @ali_lowe_author @lindsaybartels_ and @sophie.e.stern made me so keen to get to know the work of Katie. It’s fabulous! Gripping, funny, fast and makes you want to be honest with your loved ones and check in on them… read in nearly one sitting. Just fab! by @hvoreads

(Read in 1 sitting) Mad Mabel by @sallyhepworth is a suburban noir thriller about 81 year old Elsie, a Melbourne woman who has a dark hidden past. In the 1950s Elsie was known as Mad Mabel, the youngest convicted murderer in Australia and after her neighbor dies and she is unfortunately brought in to that death, Elsie is forced to confront her past. The novel switches between present day where Elsie navigates her resurfaced past and a podcast investigation into her and her youth in the 1950’s. The flashbacks reveal her traumatic youth and the events that lead to her conviction. There is a strong theme of female friendship in the story, particularly between the old lady and her young neighbour Persephone. As Sally says there is no greater love story than female platonic friendship and this book really shows that. I absolutely adored this book and it has Sally’s trademark twists and turns and is both very funny and very sad. I laughed and cried. 5-stars as always. Purchased via @constantreaderbookshop @haydenorpheumpicturepalace where I finally got to meet @sallyhepworth (throwback to October) by @hvoreads

Kill Your Boss by @jackheathwriter Such a funny title for a book, saw it @bluespointbooks and the lady behind the counter said it was a good read and I was pleasantly surprised by this funny, Richard Osman-style, detective, comedy book. When the boss of the local library plummets to his death from the library roof, sergeant Kiara has to determine which person hated him most to kill him off. With multiple viewpoints from multiple characters this story is fast paced, witty, dark humored and Laugh Out Loud funny. It’s apparently the second in a series but I read it as a stand alone. It was an enjoyable funny read! Purchased @bluespointbooks #supportsmall Mostly read by the @mciversladies baths by @hvoreads
