Cleaner water for the whole home. 💧

Over 10 years ago, our Under Sink Water Filter made waves as the only fully customized drinking water filter on the market. We’re still the only completely customized drinking water filters around… but now, we’ve expanded our customized protection against PFAS, lead, arsenic, and more, to your fridge.

We’ve also developed some of the most powerful shower filters on the market. Our Filtered Showerhead & In-Line Shower Water Filter 2.0 remove over 93% of chlorine, protecting your skin and hair from damage. They use bacteriostatic media to discourage bacterial growth, which keeps your shower clean, too—for a luxurious difference you can feel. by @hydroviv

Our Founder, Dr. Eric Roy, spoke with Forbes on how Hydroviv was born from the need to act in the wake of the Flint, Michigan water crisis. He developed, built, and donated high-capacity lead removal filters to impacted families & child-centric organizations in Flint. When people found out, they asked Dr. Roy to expand this effort to create solutions tailored to the specific water issues in their locations as well. Today, Hydroviv uses water quality data to optimize drinking water filters for each customer's water nationwide. Where you start with water testing depends on where your water comes from.

The 1986 Safe Drinking Water Act amendments banned lead in new pipes, solder, and flux, but that only applied going forward. The lead service lines already in the ground stayed there.

By the EPA's latest 2025 estimate, about 4 million lead service lines are still delivering water to homes, and some groups, like the NRDC, argue the real number could be higher; earlier national estimates ran closer to 9 million. That's why lead is still a live issue: it enters water from those pipes after it leaves the treatment plant, so a utility can be in full compliance while your tap is not.

There is no safe level of lead for children, per the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics. If you're in an older home, test your water and filter for lead.

Here's a gap most people don't know about: the federal government set strict PFAS limits for public water utilities, but those rules don't apply to private wells.

About 40 million Americans get their water from a private well, and for them, testing and treatment are entirely on the owner. PFAS tend to concentrate near industrial and military sites, like paper mills, carpet mills, and places that used firefighting foam, so if your well is in one of those areas it's worth checking.

Testing can cost a few hundred dollars, but it's the only way to know what's there. Once you know, you can filter for it.

Your water utility was required to publish this year's Consumer Confidence Report by July 1. It holds a year of testing data on your drinking water, written in regulatory language most people have never had defined.

We’ve published a new guide on the Hydroviv blog based on the same water quality review process we use when building filters optimized for each customer’s water.

In “How to Read Your 2026 Water Quality Report in 10 Minutes,” our Founder @ericroyphd walks through what the MCLG and MCL mean, why a legally compliant result is not always a safe one, and which rows in your report deserve a closer look.

The federal arsenic limit is a regulatory threshold, not a guarantee of safety.

A JAMA Network Open study using the ECHO cohort, nearly 14,000 mother-infant pairs, found that prenatal exposure to arsenic in public water, even below the federal limit of 10 micrograms per liter, was linked to lower birth weight, preterm birth, and smaller-than-expected babies.

Arsenic has no taste, smell, or color, so testing is the only way to know. If you're on a well or in a high-arsenic region, test and then filter for arsenic.

The EPA has proposed changing its PFAS drinking water rules, keeping limits on two chemicals and extending deadlines for the rest.

Nearly every American already carries PFAS. But no matter how the rules or timelines shift, the fix at home is the same: test your water, then filter for what is actually in it.

If you're one of the 43 million Americans on a private well, here's the part most people miss: private wells are excluded from the Safe Drinking Water Act. Public utilities are required to test their water and report the results to you. Well owners don’t get that same protection, which means the responsibility for testing falls on you.

The risk is real: a USGS study found that about 1 in 5 private wells had at least one contaminant above a human-health benchmark, often arsenic, nitrate, uranium, or manganese.

The EPA recommends testing at least once a year for coliform bacteria, nitrates, total dissolved solids, and pH. They also recommend testing for region-specific contaminants like arsenic, lead, or PFAS, and retesting after floods, well work, or any change in taste, smell, or color.

Once you know what's in your water, you can filter for it. Build your own filter at hydroviv.com.
