POSTS STORIES REELS

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of Asher’s passing on February 22, 2026, in Medellín, Colombia, after a courageous battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He was 62.

Asher leaves an extraordinary and enduring legacy as a pioneering force in new media art, transdisciplinary collaboration, and creative technology, most notably through his visionary leadership as Artistic Director of Hyphen Hub.

Among the many artists and curators he supported and collaborated with were Amir Shpilman, Anouk Wipprecht, Barbara London, Billy Clark, Carla Gannis, Carol Sabbadini, Christiane Paul, Claudex, Claudia Hart, Daniel Neumann, Erwin Redl, Felipe Londoño, Fito Segrera, Jakob Kudsk Steensen, Janet Biggs, Jason Barnes, Juan Cortés & Attractor, Kurt Hentschlaeger, Leo Castañeda, Lisa Park, Marco Donnarumma, Marina Rosenfeld, Mattia Casalegno, Merche Blasco, Moon Ribas, MSHR, Neil Harbisson, Paula Hayes, Phill Niblock, Phillip Stearns, Richard Garet, Sibyl Kempson, Tiffany Trenda, Valentino Caricala, and many others whose work he championed with generosity and vision.

A memorial gathering will be announced in the coming weeks. by @hyphenhub

Two nights ago in New York, I had the privilege of taking part in a truly inspiring gathering hosted by Villa Albertine (the cultural branch of the French Embassy in the U.S.) and Dark Euphoria, the forward-thinking art & technology agency based in Marseille.
The evening brought together a group of pioneering artists working in immersive media with New York institutions, producers, and curators, a rare in that it was intimate B2B exchange between France and the U.S. creative tech ecosystem.
Huge thanks to Camille Jeanjean, New Media Officer for Villa Albertine , for including me, and for building these essential bridges.
I had the chance to meet brilliant creators including:
Mathieu Pradat a experimental filmmaker, creating storytelling though immersive media such VR, XR, but also incorporating live music and sets.
Sarah Silverblatt-Busser, whose interactive VR piece Collective Body recently sold out at Lincoln Center — and which I experienced just days earlier left me also totally inspired.
The incredible Etienne Li, partner of Blanca Li, who run one of the most adventurous live theater with mix reality. And from New York, Kevin Peter He, whom I have previously posted about, presented his work in progress which builds custom controllers that live-control certain aspects of the cinematic creation, transforming into a live performance. I brought Kevin to Colombia’s Festival de la Imagen in 2024 with his “Passaje” interactive installation. The work has now evolved almost into an almost completely different work in which he added several robotic arms which he uses to physically navigate the synthetic forests he has developed, and that also have taken a life on its own by the forest itself developing new scenes for him to interact with as he navigates it with his sensors and robotic arms.
More proof that the future of performance, storytelling, and embodiment is not just digital - it’s relational, collaborative, and radically interdisciplinary.

Comment vous exprimer ma gratitude à toutes et tous… merci pour la confiance, l’énergie et les amitiés qui portent ce projet depuis ses premiers pas. by @hyphenhub

As some of you may already know, I’ve started splitting my time between New York and Medellín—two cities that couldn’t be more different, yet feel deeply connected in my life and work.
New York remains home, the place where Hyphen Hub was born and where our community of artists, technologists, and cultural explorers has grown.
Medellín, meanwhile, is experiencing a remarkable creative acceleration—full of energy, talent, and a desire to shape new cultural futures without the constant pressure cooker and the prices of NYC.

I’m sharing here a few images from the recent BIAM – Bienal de Arte de Medellín, curated by my friend Óscar Roldán and directed by Rafael Tamayo, who this week was just appointed Director of the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín. The biennial opened on October 2 and extends throughout multiple sites across the city, so of course we took the metro to see it all.

This is just the beginning.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be posting more about Hyphen Hub’s expanding presence in Colombia—artists, collaborators, and friends from our New York network visiting Medellín and Bogotá, and the projects now growing from these exchanges.

I know I’m terrible at posting — I often forget social media even exists when I’m fully immersed in projects. Interestingly, many of the artists I collaborate with—most of whom are working at the forefront of art and technology—share a similar aversion to platforms like Facebook and Instagram, often starting with a very cracked, older phone they still use.

I plan to begin sharing some highlights of projects I (and Hyphen Hub) have been involved in over the past year.

Recently released by Cyland, this book—written by curator Valentino Catricalá and a team of curators—brings together voices they consider visionary, capturing their reflections on *Art in the Time of Change* . It arrives at a moment when many feel overwhelmed by the rapid evolution of emerging technologies and their profound impact on the arts. by @hyphenhub

Still buzzing from last week in NYC—so many amazing new media shows happening all at once, it was great running into a lot of great friends and creative people I knew, it felt like a Hyphen Hub family reunion.

First up, I want to give a huge shoutout to Kevin Peter He @kevinpeterhe , an artist I’ve had the chance to collaborate with a few times now. I first met him during his residency at Onassis ONX, and it’s been incredible to watch his piece Passage evolve. He showed the latest version at New Inc Demo Day and… wow.

Featured here a live performance where Kevin navigates a lush, game-engine world (built in Unreal engine) using a hacked robotic arm, actually controlling the world in real time, while a DJ layers haunting electro-acoustic vibes. This work is part installation, part cinematic concert, part cyber-dreamscape. Nature and tech merging, clashing, surviving.

The performance has already toured major venues in New York, Australia,
L. A. —and seeing it live in NYC hit differently as he continues adding new elements to its narrative through the use of the latest emerging technologies tools. Can’t wait to see where it goes next.

More highlights of last week coming soon

Another artist whom we had work in the past and who participated in this year's edition of the Festival de la Imagen is Soliman Lopez @solimanlopez with his impressive installation CAPSIDE

CAPSIDE is a reflection on invisible biodiversity and also a call to rethink how we store, protect, and honor life through artistic, scientific, and spiritual lenses.

For the past few years, HyphenHub has had the honor of being the international guest curator at @imagenfest—bringing visionary artists, performers, and thinkers from around the globe.

This year, we raised the bar again: Game-inspired installations, AI meets ecology in interactive works, premier of one of the world’s first experimental theater pieces powered by A.I., Cutting-edge electronic music, projection mapping driven by neural networks bahvior, thought-provoking talks + deep-dive discussions about A. I and surveillance, corpo-nations, new explorations about ecology+art, and the role of game engine across the fields.

Massive thanks to all the incredible artists, collaborators, and audiences who made this year unforgettable (and yes, totally exhausting 😅).

Special love to Felipe Londoño, the visionary founder of the festival, and to Oliver Grau & Andrés Burbano, co-organizers of the International Media Art Conference.

The synergy, energy, and creativity were next level.
See you next year for the big 25—celebrating one of the longest-running new media festivals in the world.

“The So-Called Humanity in Madness” is a 40-minute experimental performance presented on May 7th at the Festival de la Imagen in Manizales, Colombia. This work, developed by Polish experimental theater director Krzysztof Garbaczewski and with a script by Rebecca Pierrot, was a co-production between New York's Culture Hub and Hyphen Hub, two sister organizations working on developing and producing multimedia experiences in a live format, addressing contemporary issues and through avant-garde technologies. This particular work explores madness, artificial intelligence as it absorbs human qualities of existentialism and the meaning of its presence in today's world. The stage becomes a threshold between reality, illusion, and simulation.
